7、pecification covers the Companys requirements for castings made of ductile iron (also known as nodular or spheroidal graphite iron). Ductile irons may be used in the as-cast condition, or when design considerations require improved properties or closer control, may be annealed, normalized, quenched
8、and tempered, or austempered 2.0 INTRODUCTION Conventional Ductile iron is a versatile material with strength characteristics similar to cast steels but with castability and machinability, for the as-cast and annealed grades, similar to gray iron. The as-cast grades are the most economical. The lowe
9、r strength, annealed, ferritic grades offer the best ductility and toughness. Higher strength in the conventional ductile iron grades is obtained by normalizing (pearlitic) or by quenching and tempering (martensitic). This provides increased strength with a subsequent reduction in ductility and toug
10、hness. Austempered ductile iron (ADI) grades are characterized by a microstructure of acicular ferrite in a carbon stabilized-austenite matrix. These ADI grades are more expensive than as-cast or heat-treated conventional grades but offer an intermediate range of properties with good ductility, toug
