1、 Tentative Interim Amendment NFPA 414 Standard for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Vehicles 2001 Edition Reference: 4-18.7 TIA 01-2(NFPA 414) Pursuant to Section 5 of the NFPA Regulations Governing Committee Projects, the National Fire Protection Association has issued the following Tentative Inte
2、rim Amendment to NFPA 414, Standard for Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Vehicles, 2001 edition. The TIA was processed by the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Committee, and was issued by the Standards Council on April 17, 2002 with an effective date of May 7, 2002. Tentative Interim Amendment is
3、tentative because it has not been processed through the entire standards-making procedures. It is interim because it is effective only between editions of the standard. A TIA automatically becomes a proposal of the proponent for the next edition of the standard; as such, it then is subject to all of
4、 the procedures of the standards-making process. 1. Add new section as follows: 4-18.7 Light weight boom mounted turrets shall be permitted as primary turrets. These turrets shall meet the following design and functional requirements: (1) They shall comply with Chapter 18 of NFPA 1901, Standard for
5、Automotive Fire Apparatus, and shall meet the requirements of 4.2.1.3 and 4.2.1.4 of this standard while in the stowed position. They shall achieve a 20, percent side slope with the boom turret fully elevated and the nozzle fully rotated uphill at maximum horizontal rotation while discharging at max
6、imum flow rate. Flow rates shall be in accordance with Tables 4.1.1(c) and 4.1.1(d) for major vehicles. (a) They shall meet the primary water-foam agent turret discharge requirements of Tables 4.1.1(c) and 4.1.1(d) for the applicable vehicle class while in the bedded condition. (b) They shall meet t
7、he foam quality standard of NFPA 412, Standard for Evaluating Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Foam Equipment. (c) They shall function during ARFF operations without the need for outriggers or other ground contact stabilizers that could render the vehicle immobile or hinder its maneuverability. Cop

9、art application of agent within 30 seconds of activation of the deployment cycle. (e) They shall be capable of applying agent to interior areas of the type aircraft being protected through passenger doorways. In addition, the device must permit the operator to position the nozzle assembly so as to b
10、e able to discharge the agent in front of the vehicle at a level that permits the operator to see over the turret discharge. (f) They shall have a range of motion so as to permit positioning of the nozzle to direct a fire fighting agent stream along the longitudinal axis of the fuselage or up to 90
11、degrees to the longitudinal axis for interior fire extinguishments. 2. Add the following Definition: A.4.18.7 A Light weight boom mounted turret is a primary turret mounted on a light weight boom that is capable of being elevated and depressed to apply agent to aircraft engines, doorways and emergen
12、cy exits. Light weight boom mounted turrets differ from extendible turrets in that they do not need turntables. 17、clearance at differential housing bowl for Vehicle with Water Tank Capacity of 1999 liters to 6000 liters and greater than 6000 liters from 33 cm to read: 33.0 (26.7) cm 2. In Table 4.1.1(b) change underaxle clearance at differential housing bowl for Vehicle with Water Tank Capacity of 528 to 1585 g
18、allons and greater than 1585 gallons from 13 inches to read: 13 (10.5) inches 3. Revise 4-2.2.1.1 by adding the following sentence: Where an active suspension provides vehicle leveling and maintenance of the underbody clearance of the lower underaxle, clearances shown in the parenthesis in Tables 4-
19、1.1(a) and (b) shall be used.
