4、nspection, pavements and slabs, struc- tural design and analysis, structural specifica- tions, and special products and processes. 5、n Programs The final quality of a concrete structure depends on qualified people to construct it. AC1 certification pro- grams identify craftsmen, technicians and inspectors who have demonstrated their qualifications. The follow- ing programs are administered by AC1 to fulfill the grow- ing demand i
6、n the industry for certified workers: Concrete Flatwork Finisher Concrete Field Testing Technician-Grade I Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician-Grade I Concrete Laboratory Testing Technician-Grade II Concrete Construction Inspector-ln-Training Concrete Construction Inspector- Level II This documen
7、t may already contain reference to these AC1 certification programs, which can be incorporated into project specifications or quality control procedures. If not, suggested guide specifications are available on request from the AC1 Certification Department. Enhancement of AC1 Documents The technical
8、committees responsible for AC1 commit- tee reports and standards strive to avoid ambiguities, omissions, and errors in these documents. In spite of these efforts, the users of AC1 documents occasionally find information or requirements that may be subject to more than one interpretation or may be in
9、complete or incorrect. To assist in the effort for accuracy and clarity, the Technical Activities Committee solicits the help of indi- viduals using AC1 reports and standards in identifying and eliminating problems that may be associated with their use. Users who have suggestions for the improvement
10、 of AC1 documents are requested to contact the AC1 Engineering Department in writing, with the following information: 1. Title and number of the document containing the problem and specific section in the document: 2. Concise description of the problem; 3. If possible, suggested revisions for mitiga
11、ting the problem. The Institutes Engineering Staff will review and take appropriate action on all comments and suggestions re- ceived. The Mercer Mile consists o f three historic concrete buildings within a mile (1.6 km) o f each other, built by Henry Chapman Mercer near Dqlestown, in Bucks Couny, Penn
16、sylvania. The first to be built, starting in 1908, was Fonthill, Mercers 44-room mansion. The second, the Moravian Pottv and Tile Works, was and i s a factq producing ontamentai tiles for mhi- tectural and other putposes. e last and largest structure, completed in 191 6, was the Mercer Museum, built
17、 to houre Mercers coection of more than 3,OOO took and objects from Ea+ American and Narive American society. Ilre collection totah 50,000 objects toa!ay. Mercer acted rn both architect and builder and his unique plans and bold construction tech- niques made him a pioneer in the use o f concrete. Bu

INTRODUCTION Henry Chapman Mercer (1856-1930) received consid- erable fame for his achievements in the fields of arch- aeology, anthropology, ceramics, and historical research, Mercer was a multi-talented man with imaginat
22、ion, a highly developed artistic sense, and a wealth of historical knowledge. He inherited his estate and considerable wealth which gave him the freedom and means to apply his many tal- ents to special interests. He also had a favorite aunt who was wealthy and helped to back many of his later enter-
