11、nada for over 20 years in research on durability of concrete. In August 1980, CANMET, in association with the American Concrete Institute, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the University of New Brunswick, and several other professional organizations sponsored a five-day international conference at
12、St. Andrews-by-the-Sea, New Brunswick, Canada, on the performance of concrete in marine environment. The purpose of the conference was to bring together representatives of the cement and concrete industries to exchange information on the effects of marine environment on plain and reinforced concrete
13、, and to explore new areas of needed research and development. The proceedings of the conference containing 33 papers from more than 10 countries were published as In 1988, CANMET, in association with the American Concrete Institute, University of New Brunswick, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, and the
14、 Institute for Research in Construction (National Research Council), sponsored the Second International Conference on Performance of Concrete in Marine Environment. The conference was held August 21-26 at St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. AC1 SP-109 is a record of the proceedings of the conference. In 1996, C
15、ANMET, in association with the American Concrete Institute, the Institute for Research in Construction (National Research Council), Ottawa, the University of New Brunswick, Fredericton, NB, and the Canadian Portland Cement Association, sponsored the Third CANMETIACI International Conference on the s
16、ubject of Performance of Concrete in Marine Environment. The conference was held August 4-9 at St. Andrews-by-the-Sea. More than 35 papers from 10 countries were presented at the conference, and the proceedings were published in AC1 SP-163. As an integral part of the conference, a special symposium
17、to honor Prof. Odd E. Gjerrv of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Trondheim, Norway, was held on Tuesday, August 6. The symposium recognizes Prof. Gjerrvs long-term contributions to the durability of concrete in marine environment. The symposium was chaired by Prof. P. K. Mehta of
18、the University of Berkeley, California, and the proceedings of this symposium were published as a separate volume.
