ACRP Synthesis 10,
2、 Airport Sustainability Practices introduces some of the issues around this topic. ACRP project 02-13, Improve Environmental Performance at Small Airports is also examing practices for environemental stewardship. 08-01 is developing a giudebook for implementing sustainability during consruction. ACR
3、P project A02-10 Practical Reduction Strategies offers the greatest potential for overlap. TRB Aviation Group Environmental Impacts of Aviation Cmte: Oversimplified and generic approach to a macro concept that has advanced beyond the starting point proposed. Do not fund Panel for Future Finance & Bu
4、siness Strategies Emphasis The Emphasis Area Panel viewed this problem statement as worthy of inclusion in the ACRP reserach program. Important topic but initially needs a broad overview and assessment of current practice. A meaningful guidebook may be premature but we can collect current practice a
5、nd prepare for a viable guidebook in a few years. Initial scope needs more attention to the financial good/bad implications of being green. Research dollar allocation is high. Panel for Environmental Emphasis The Environmental Panel saw the scope of the problem statement as over-broad and overlaping
6、 other non-ACRP research. It is not a prioirity for ACRP research. ACRP Screening Panel Duplicates efforts elsewhere in the industry and is not needed. 7、irport II. RESEARCH PROBLEM STATEMENT Aviation is considered a relatively small industry but with a disproportionately large impact on the climate system. Studies show that aviation industry presently accounts for 4-9% of the total climate change impact of human activity. According to the Concept of
8、 Operations for NextGen, environmental impacts such as noise, air emissions, water pollution, land use, climate change, and fuel consumption will be the primary constraints on the capacity and flexibility of NextGen. Airports are urged to escalate their effort to address the environmental concerns b
9、y managing and mitigating aforementioned environmental impacts. A vision of “Green Airport” is essential for providing benchmark and guidelines towards that goal. The terms “green” and “sustainability” are often used as if they are synonymous or interchangeable. Nevertheless, researchers try to dist
10、inguish them since sustainability is a macro and elusive concept, i.e. a system is either sustainable or not. In contrast, “green”, is a micro and relative concept, easy to understand but hard to definitely measure. Since the concept is relative, there is always a way to be greener but green options
