As written, a survey of existing practice is

Unsure that tracking of personnel and “assets“ at an airpor
3、t would be useful, practical, or worthy of ACRP research funds. It is likley that this topic has wider applications than just airports and been the subject of research by the logistics and material handling industries, for example. 4、A AC CR RP P Problem Number Problem Number 10-01-01 I. PROBLEM TITLE Personnel and Asset Tracking Through the Use of Information Technology (problem statement 09-01-16) II. RESEARCH PROBLEM STATEMENT Information technology (IT) and the business applications that use IT are essential to airport opera
5、tions. Advances in Information Technology, specifically Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), have significant and important implications regarding the maintenance, administration and effective operation of airports. RFID is currently being used to effectively manage items in transit and commerce w
6、hile GPS is most often used for tracking assets. However, recent advance in RFID and antennae technologies have increased the opportunity to manage personnel and asset tracking at greater distances. III. OBJECTIVE The objective of this effort is to identify and test effective RFID technology (ies) f
7、or personnel and asset tracking within the airport environment. Recommendations will be made regarding the deployment of RFID technology for personnel and asset tracking IV. RESEARCH PROPOSED The specific research steps proposed are: 1. Literature review regarding the use of RFID for personnel and a
8、sset tracking 2. Identification of appropriate RFID technology (ies) 3. Testing the identified technologies in the airport environment 4. Present recommendations for technology identification and implementation V. ESTIMATE OF THE PROBLEM FUNDING AND RESEARCH PERIOD Recommended Funding: $250,000 per
9、professional staff-year, for 2 years. 10、ths VI. URGENCY AND PAYOFF POTENTIAL Urgency 2 This research effort is important to secure our airports under homeland security. Furthermore, The Office of Homeland Security has designated two (2) airports in the United States to be laboratory airports. These are Houstons George Bush Intercontinenta
11、l Airport and Chicagos OHare International Airports. The authors of this Program Problem statement have a working relationship with the Houston Airport Authority through their Ground Safety Division. Payoff Potential The use of RFID technology is applicable to the following interest areas of the ACR
12、P. Operations Personnel and equipment asset tracking, baggage tracking, passenger tracking. This includes security personnel, support vehicles, passenger carts, passenger bags and cargo, passenger tickets, and other items such as wheelchairs. Design Using passenger flow data to design / redesign pas
13、senger routing, using asset tracking to design / redesign ramps, using personnel tracking to design sub- station deployment locations. Access to both George Bush Intercontinental Airport and Hobby Airport will allow data to be collected from a large and medium-sized airport. Construction Identificat
