V. ESTIMATE OF THE PROBLEM FUNDING AND RESEARCH PERIOD Recommended Funding: Project funding is anticipat
3、ed to be $300,000. Research Period: The project will be completed within a 12month period. 2 VI. URGENCY AND PAYOFF POTENTIAL The FAA and individual airport owners have identified that 18 major airports will need significant new capacity by 2015, with 26 needing new significant additional capacity b
4、y 2025. The FAA NPIAS identifies six potential new or replacement commercial service airports by 2013. Many of the airports with 2015 capacity enhancement needs have already begun studies and documentation of the processes to bring new capacity online. The Best Practices handbook proposed herein wil
5、l help to develop a clear and well thought out process for project implementation and help build support and enhance the likelihood of success for many of these projects, providing major national airport system benefits. VII. RELATED RESEARCH The FAA continues to identify longterm capacity needs in
6、its annual NPIAS and other efforts. It does not provide specific recommendations to airport owners for how to achieve success. Individual airports and their consulting teams are working to develop successful projects, but are often unaware of the reasons for other airport successes and failures. Thi
7、s effort will provide a good single source for airports and their development teams to take advantage of lessons learned from the past. VIII.
