3、m Number 10-04-03 I. PROBLEM TITLE Measurement of Grooves on Airport Pavements II. PROBLEM STATEMENT A vital pavement safety component of airport runway pavements is the grooves that are provided to remove water from the surface and prevent hydroplaning. Measurement of the depth and spacing of the g
4、rooves can be time consuming and may require the closure of the facilities and resulting loss of airport revenue and inconvenience to the traveling public. The grooves can be damage by periodic rubber removal and/or their shape changed from weather or maintenance activities. Although there is equipm
5、ent on the market that appears to be capable of measuring the grooves, a rapid, reliable, and proven method of measuring the depth and spacing of the grooves is needed. III. OBJECTIVE Research is needed to determine a rapid, reliable method of measuring the depth and spacing of grooves on airport pa
6、vements. Current Federal Aviation Administration specification for Measurement, Construction, and Maintenance of Skid Resistant Airport Pavement Surfaces is AC 150/5320/12C. The advisory circular requires that the groove configuration to be inch (1/16 inch) in depth by inch (+1/16 inch, -0 inch) in
