This British S
11、tandard, prepared under the authority of the Packaging Standards Committee, was first published in 1955. Although complete international agreement has been reached on a series of preferred sizes for wires, there have only been limited agreements for drums. This is mainly because the majority of thes
12、e items are returnable, thus representing a very high capital investment and also because of problems connected with associated machinery. In view of this, the committee responsible for the preparation of this British Standard considered that it would be inappropriate at this stage to adopt anything
13、 other than a metric conversion of existing imperial sizes. The present revision, therefore, retains the existing drums but describes them in metric units. This standard is one of a series of standards for reels and drums for wires of electrical purposes, the others being: BS 1489, The packaging of
14、covered winding wires for electrical purposes. BS 1559, Reels and wooden drums for bare wires, stranded conductors and trolley wire, for use in the United Kingdom. BS 1888, Precision reels for bare and oxidized resistance wire (0.010 mm 0.125 mm diameter inclusive). A British Standard does not purpo

Nails, nuts, bolts or screws shall be countersunk below the surface of the flange. If the flange has a metal tyre, this shall in no place overhang the edges of the flange. A recessed

This shall be 16 mm in diameter and 38 mm deep, and shall be drilled at a radius of 115 mm from the centre of the bore. In the event of drums being required f
