This standard presents the general, physical, and magnetic requirements for ac
14、hieving unrecorded media interchange between compatible rigid disk storage applications, using either fixed or removable media. Subsequent standards may specify other disks with different storage and performance capabilities, or additional requirements for this media, relevant to higher levels of in
15、ter- change in a specific application. Due to the variety of possible applications of the stan- dardized media, whether used singly or in multiple-fixed disk machines, or in removable disk cartridges and packs, there has been no attempt to define data format or data inter- change requirements at the
16、 single disk level. Technical Committee X3B7 on Magnetic Disks, which developed this standard, consists of a group of experienced and qualified specialists on rigid disk media and the associated disk storage drives. In the development of this standard, careful consideration was given to current prac
17、tices, existing equipment, and applicable standards being developed inter- nally. This standard was approved as an American National Standard by the American National Standards Institute on June 12,1984. Suggestions for improvement of this standard will be welcome.
