During the preparation of this British Standard, it was decided that requirements should be placed both
12、on the intrinsic garment design and on the properties of the fabrics used in their make-up as measured in accordance with BS 7914, Method of test for penetration of erythemally weighted solar ultraviolet radiation through clothing fabrics. At the time of publication of this standard, action spectra
13、for solar ultraviolet radiation (UVR)-induced conditions other than erythema had not been established, therefore only erythema due to solar UVR has been considered. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible f

T
16、his standard relates only to childrens garments and does not apply to hats, shade cloths, umbrella fabrics and non-textile agents. It does not apply to babywear or to clothing specifically defined as menswear/womenswear. This standard does not address the long-term health effects of the sun on the s
17、kin. NOTEIt is the intention that clothing for adults will be addressed in a future work item. 2 Normative references The following normative documents contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this British Standard. 19、oses of this British Standard, the following terms and definitions apply. 3.1 childrens clothing clothing designed for babies older than 6 months and children, and which is subject to the relevant VAT notices on childrens clothing 1 NOTEFor further information see BS 7231-1. 3.2 erythema reddening o

23、ent shall have a maximum penetration P of 1/40 or 2.5 % (equivalent to UPF 40) when tested in accordance with BS 7914. 5 Design NOTECare should be taken to ensure that trimmings and components are backed with fabric offering protection in accordance with clause 4 (see also BS 7907). 5.1 A garment de
24、signed to offer protection to the upper body shall completely cover, as a minimum, the upper body (see Figure 1). 25、-2000 BS 7949:1999 1) Marking BS 7949:1999 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product meets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of such a claim is solely the claimants responsibilit
26、y. Such a declaration is not to be confused with third-party certification of conformity. 5.2 A garment designed to offer protection to the lower body shall completely cover, as a minimum, the lower body (see Figure 2). 28、lps prevent sunburn. In addition, the following wording shall be included with the non-permanent labelling or labelling on the associated packaging: Use a high protection factor sunscreen or other protection on any areas of the body not covered by this garment. The labelling shall not include any qu
29、antitative declaration of the sun protection properties offered by the fabric other than UPF 40 or UPF 40+ (i.e. UPF 40+ means a UPF of greater than 40).
