10、vehicles when the latter are fitted with a coupling ball. It applies to a coupling ball designed for caravans and light trailers which do not exceed 3.5 tonnes maximum total weight. It does not necessarily apply to special trailers drawn by special vehicles. 2 References The following publications a

12、, ISO limits and fits Part 1: General, tolerances and deviations. 3 Dimensional characteristics 3.1 Dimensions of coupling ball. Dimensions and tolerances for coupling ball shall be as shown in Figure 1 and for the coupling ball and support in Figure 2. NOTEIt is essential that, when the coupling ba
13、ll and support are installed, the clearance dimensions shown in Figure 3 are maintained. 3.1.1 The diameter of the spherical surface of the coupling ball is 50 mm, tolerance h 13.1) 3.1.2 The surface referred to in 3.1.1 is a partial sphere, the upper portion of which terminates above the centre O o
14、f the sphere in a flat horizontal surface. The diameter of this surface is 18 1 mm. The lower portion of the sphere terminates at the intersection of the surface defined above and the horizontal plane located not less than 17 mm below point O. 3.1.3 The connecting radius between the ball and the nec
15、k shall be tangential both to the neck and to the lower horizontal surface as defined in 3.1.2. 3.1.4 The diameter of the neck of the ball shall be between 27 mm and 29 mm, down to a horizontal plane situated at not less than 32 mm below point O. 3.2 Mounting bolts and nuts. Two M16 diameter bolts a
16、nd nuts shall be used to secure the mounting plate to the mounting face. Bolts and nuts shall comply with the requirements of Grade 8.8 specified in BS 3692. The nuts shall be secured by fitting a positive locking device, e.g., a self-locking nut or locking washer. 3.3 Installation dimensions 3.3.1
