、al corrosion protection 3.2.2 Facing sheets: aluminium alloy see EN 2090. 4 Surface preparation The surface preparation prior to bonding shall conform to EN 2334. 5 Bonding The application of the adhesive system (adhesive and primer if applicable) and curing shall be carried out according to the ins
、tructions of the adhesive manufacturer or the material standard. 6 Storage of the test samples after bonding After curing, samples made with elevated temperature curing adhesives shall be exposed and/or tested after a storage period of at least 16 hours under the conditions as given below (unless ot
、herwise specified by the adhesive manufacturer). Samples with room temperature curing adhesives which are not exposed and/or tested immediately after curing, shall be stored under the conditions as given below (unless otherwise specified by the adhesive manufacturer). Storage conditions: 7 Cutting a
、nd preparation of test pieces The test panel shall be carefully cut into pieces with a suitable tool such as a band saw. The setting and spacing of the teeth and the operational speed shall be such that the frictional heating of the bond will be kept to a minimum. The cutting shall be straight and p
、arallel. 8 Test conditions 8.1 The test shall be carried out at the temperatures stated in the relevant material standard. If the test temperature is different from the ambient temperature, the heating rate shall be between 6 C/min to 10 C/min. It is not necessary to control the cooling rate. The ap
、plication of load for all tests at temperatures other than ambient shall be made immediately after the specimen has been held at the specified test temperature range for 10 min, unless a longer term of exposure is required. 8.2 For all test temperatures excluding room temperature (23 2) C, temperatu
、re control of the specimens shall be carried out by means of a thermocouple to ensure the accuracy of test temperature and reproducibility of data. The junction of the thermocouple shall be firmly attached to the test piece at a convenient part and shielded from the heat source. 8.3 The number of te
、st pieces for each test shall be as required by the material standard. 8.4 Each test piece shall be marked in order to ensure identification of the panel from which it was cut. 9 Method of test 9.1 Tensile testing machine An approved tensile testing machine shall be used. The failing load of the tes
、t piece shall be within 10 % and 90 % of the upper limit of the selected loading range of the machine. The test machine shall have a recording device to make a diagram of the loads. 1) Published as AECMA standard 2) In preparation. Room temperature: (23 2) C Relative humidity: (50 5) %. Licensed Cop

、9.1.1 Peeling jig The peeling jig consists of a drum with lateral flanges, flexible load strips or cords, and suitable clamps for fastening the test pieces in. The arrangement shown in Figure 2 has proved efficient. The drum radius is 50 mm. The radii of the flanges including half the thickness of t
、he flexible load strips or cords are 12,5 mm larger than the drum radius. The top clamp, for introducing the load into the test piece, and the clamp on the drum shall be disposed so that the covering layers are tangential to the drum surface in the beginning of the test, as shown in Figure 2. The dr
、um shall be counter-balanced by fixing a mass on the drum opposite the clamp. The maximum mass of the peeling jig shall not exceed 3,5 kg. 9.2 Method of fixing The test piece shall be carefully fixed to the drum as shown in Figure 2. The other end of the test piece shall be fixed on the top of the t
、est machine using the top clamp. When the test piece with the peeling jig is suspended on the top grip of the test machine, fastened by means of a bolt through the clamp, the test machine indicator shall be set at 0 and the yoke of the peeling jig shall be fastened by means of a bolt to a fitting in
、 the bottom grip of the machine. The covering layer of the test piece shall be peeled off over a length of at least 150 mm by application of a traction load. The load required for this shall be recorded by the recording device as a function of the peeling length during the peeling process. 9.3 Speed
、 of loading The speed of the pulling grip shall remain constant during the whole peeling operation and shall be 25 mm/min. 10 Evaluation of results 10.1 Determination of average peeling and rolling load F1 The average load F1 needed for peeling and rolling shall be defined over a peeling length of 1
、25 mm, by inserting the estimated average value into the diagram, disregarding the first 25 mm, as shown in Figure 3. In case of doubt, the average load shall be determined by means of a planimeter. 10.2 Determination of rolling load F0 Rolling load F0 is determined by fixing an unbonded facing shee
、t, as described in clause 9, in the peeling jig and test machine, and applying a traction load to roll it up. The load used shall be recorded during the rolling operation. It shall remain approximately constant. 10.3 Determination of average peeling load F The value to be reported is calculated by t
、he following equation: F = F1 F0 The peeling load shall be expressed in newtons and shall refer to the full width of 75 mm of the specimen. 11 Test report The test report shall include the following information: 11.1 Complete identification of the adhesive system including the type, suppliers code,
、date of manufacture, batch number, material standard, etc. 11.2 Complete identification of the materials used (honeycomb core and facing sheets). 11.3 Detailed information about the preparation of the metal facing sheets prior to bonding. 11.4 Conditions of application and bonding, including chosen
、method of bonding (autoclave or press), bondline pressure, heat-up rate, curing time and temperature, etc. 11.5 The number of test pieces used. 11.6 The exposure conditions and test temperature. 11.7 The type of testing machine and speed of loading. 11.8 Information about the individual test pieces
、including the actual sheet dimensions and the average peeling strength. 11.9 The nature of failure including the estimated average percentage of failure in cohesion and/or adhesion both of adhesive and, if applicable, adhesive primer. 11.10 The average, minimum and maximum value of the average peeli
