8、his British Standard has been prepared by Subcommittee CPL/61/6 and is the English language version of EN 50144-2-8:1996 Safety of hand-held electric motor operated tools Part 2-8: Particular requirements for sheet metal shears and nibblers, published by the European Committee for Electrotechnical S
9、tandardization (CENELEC). It is to be read in conjunction with BS EN 50144-1:1996 General requirements, which it supplements or modifies. The many references to Part 1 should be read as references to BS EN 50144-1:1996, which is the English language version of EN 50144-1:1995. The foreword of EN 501
10、44-2-8 makes reference to the “date of withdrawal”, dow, of the relevant national standard. In this case the relevant national standard is BS 2769-2.8:1984 which will be withdrawn on 1 December 1996 in accordance with the CENELEC Internal Regulations. Reference is also made to the application of CEN
11、ELEC Memorandum No. 6 with regard to certification. Attention is drawn to Note 7 to Memorandum No. 6 which states: “The use of the certificate or mark licence in the running production may not go on for more than 60 months after dow. This should allow necessary changes in the production line and to
12、use up supplies. Within the established period after dow the certificates and mark licences will have to be reconsidered and cancelled or reissued”. For tools intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, as in ships and vehicles, and in hazardous locations, for example, where e
13、xplosions are liable to occur, requirements additional to those specified in the standard may be necessary. This standard calls for test procedures that may be injurious to safety or health if adequate precautions are not taken when conducting tests. Product certification Attention is drawn to the f
14、act that products conforming to this British Standard may be approved by BSI Product Certification, and that such certification may be used for the purposes of participation in the CENELEC Certification Agreement. The text of the draft was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure (UAP) in
25、 December 1993 and was approved by CENELEC as EN 50144-2-8 on 1994-10-04. A draft for an amendment was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure in April 1994 and was approved by CENELEC on 1994-10-04 for inclusion into the European Standard. This European Standard replaces HD 400.3H S1:1981. The
26、 following dates were fixed: As far as certification is concerned, CENELEC Memorandum 6 applies. This standard is divided into two Parts: Part 1: General Requirements, comprising clauses of a general character. Part 2: Particular Requirements, dealing with particular types of appliance. The clauses
27、of these particular requirements supplement or modify the corresponding clauses in Part 1. Where the text of Part 2 indicates an “addition” to, a “modification” or “replacement” of the relevant requirement, test specification or explanation of Part 1, these changes are made to the relevant text of P

34、input, in watts, is equal to rated input NOTEThe normal load is based on the rated voltage or on the upper limit of the rated voltage range. 3 General requirements This clause of Part 1 is applicable. 4 General conditions for the tests This clause of Part 1 is applicable except as follows: 4.10 Addi
35、tion: For tests carried out under normal load, the shear or nibbler mechanism may be replaced by a rotating gear, so that the tool can be loaded by means of a brake. 5 Rating This clause of Part 1 is applicable. 6 Classification This clause of Part 1 is applicable. 7 Marking This clause of Part 1 is
36、 applicable except as follows: 7.1 Addition: Shears and nibblers shall be marked with: maximum thickness, in millimetres, of sheet metal which can be cut. NOTEUnless otherwise indicated on the tool, the marking for maximum thickness of sheet metal which can be cut is related to steel having a tensil
