It is not suitable for high duty dynamically stressed springs, for which hard drawn wire to BS
9、 S 202 should be used. 1 Inspection and testing procedure 1.1 General. This British Standard shall be used in conjunction with BS 3S 100, Sections 1 and 10. 1.2 Sulphur printing and deep etching tests. Samples shall be selected in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 1, Clause 7.2.2. 2 Process of manu
10、facture The material shall be manufactured by an open hearth, an oxygen or an electric process unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 1, Clause 3.1. 3 Chemical composition 3.1 The steel shall contain: 3.2 For special requirements, spr
11、ing makers may specify limits of carbon and manganese within those stated in Clause 3.1. 4 Surface dressing The material from which the rods are rolled shall be locally dressed in accordance with the requirements of BS 3S 100, Section 1, Clause 5.2. 5 Condition The material shall be supplied in the
12、appropriate condition stated below unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser, in which case the condition in which the material is to be supplied shall be stated on the order. 6 Freedom from defects Samples, selected and prepared for examination in accordance with BS 3S 100,
13、 Section 10, Clause 1.3.2 or Clauses 2.3.2 and 2.3.3, shall be immersed in a 50 per cent solution of concentrated hydrochloric acid in water at a temperature of not less than 85 ?C (185 ?F). The time of immersion shall be approximately 2 seconds for every 0.025 mm (0.001 in) of diameter, but shall b

16、enting the springs shall be: Low temperature heat treat at a temperature between 250 ?C and 375 ?C (480 ?F and 710 ?F) for not less than 15 minutes nor more than 45 minutes. 8 Mechanical properties 8.1 Tensile test (wire and springs only) 8.1.1 Wire. The tensile properties of test pieces for wire se
17、lected and prepared in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Clause 2.5 shall comply with the tensile range given in the table below. 8.1.2 Test pieces representing springs.The tensile properties of test pieces representing spring, selected and prepared in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Cla
18、use 3.6 and heat treated in accordance with Clause 7 shall comply with the minimum tensile strength values given in the table below. 8.2 Torsion test wire only not greater than 5.10 mm (0.201 in) diameter or thickness. The test pieces, selected in
22、 accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Clause 2.5, shall be taken from wire in the condition as delivered and shall not be heat treated before being tested in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Clause 2.6.2.2 or 2.6.3. For round wire, each test piece shall withstand, without cracking, the numbe
23、r of bends specified in the table below: 8.4 Wrapping test wire only less than 2.2 mm (0.087 in) diameter or thickness. The test pieces, selected in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Clause 2.5, shall be taken from wire in the condition as delivered and shall not be heat treated before being te
24、sted in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Clause 2.6.2.4 or 2.6.3. 9 Examination for decarburization 9.1 Microscopical examination of rod and wire shall be made in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 10, Clauses 1.4 and 2.4 respectively. 9.2 The sections shall show no completely decarburized zon
25、e; partial decarburization as indicated by ferrite spines or a network of ferrite shall not extend to a depth below the surface greater than 1?% of the nominal diameter or minor sectional dimension of the rod or wire.
