9、oreword This British Standard, prepared under the direction of the Aerospace Standards Policy Committee, is one of a series for textiles suitable for aerospace purposes, and replaces and revises Ministry of Defence specification DTD 763A which is withdrawn. It specifies in section 1 the requirements
10、 for warp knitted cotton fabrics from which polishing and polish application cloths are manufactured, and a second warp knitted construction has been introduced. The requirements for the cloths manufactured from these fabrics are specified in section 2. The cloths are intended for use in polishing a
11、nd cleaning of aircraft cockpit canopies, windscreens and transparencies. Quality requirements as defined in the latest edition of BS F 100 are included, as are details of information to be supplied by the purchaser. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a co
12、ntract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. General 1 Scope This British Standard specifies in section 2 the requirements for warp knitted cotton fabrics used in the manufacture of polishing and polish application cloths, the requirements for which are specified in section 3.
15、The cloths are specifically intended for polishing and general cleaning of high quality panels used in aircraft transparencies. NOTE 1The information to be supplied by the purchaser in the contract or order is listed in Appendix A. NOTE 2Cloths complying with this specification are intended for sing
16、le use only with polishes specified for use on aircraft transparent plastic panels and mouldings to significantly reduce light scattering due to minor damage of the surface of the transparency. NOTE 3The titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 G
17、eneral requirements In addition to the requirements specified in clauses 2 to 8, the following sections and clauses of the latest edition of BS F 100 shall apply (see Table 1). Section 2. Warp knitted cotton fabrics 3 Yarn 3.1 The yarn shall be spun from cotton fibre having a nominal staple length o
18、f 36/38 mm when tested in accordance with BS 4044 and a micronaire value of 4 0.2 when tested in accordance with BS 3181. 3.2 The cotton fibre shall be free from trash and combed. 3.3 The singles yarn shall be spun with “Z” twist to produce yarns complying with Table 2. 3.4 The yarns shall be electr
19、onically cleared and spliced and shall not be sized. 4 Fabric manufacture The fabric shall be warp knitted from yarns defined in clause 3 in either: a) Milanese plain knit; or b) double atlas knit. NOTEThe colour required should, be stated in the contract or order see Appendix A b). 6 Construction and properties of finished fabric The finished fabric shall comply with Table 3 and clauses 7 and 8. NOTEAll tests should be carried out before cutting the fabric into cloths. 7 Freedom from impur
25、ities 7.1 Wettability The fabric shall be finished such that a drop of water spotted onto the fabric from a height not exceeding 50 mm is absorbed in less than 2 s. NOTE 1The drop size is not critical. NOTE 2This test gives an indication that the fabric has been adequately scoured. NOTE 3Apparatus c
26、omplying with BS 4554 has been found suitable for this test. 7.2 pH of aqueous extract The pH of an aqueous extract of each dye batch of finished fabric shall be not less than pH 5.0 or more than pH 8.0. 7.3 Water-soluble chloride The finished fabric shall contain not more than 0.1 % water-soluble c
27、hloride calculated as NaCl. 7.4 Water-soluble sulphate The finished fabric shall contain not more than 0.25 % water-soluble sulphate calculated as Na2SO4. 8 Residue on ignition When tested in accordance with the method given in BS 6646, the residue on ignition shall not exceed 0.5 % by mass. The tes
28、t shall be done on the initial dye batch per contract. Table 3 Construction and properties of finished fabric Section 3. Polishing and polish application cloths 9 Material 9.1 The cloths shall be manufactured from fabric specified in section 2. 9.2 The cloths shall be free from all defects. 9.3 The
29、polish application cloths shall be Milanese plain knit. NOTEPolishing cloths may be either knit (see clause 4). 10 Dimensions The minimum dimensions of the cloths shall be: NOTEThe dimensions of the cloths should be stated in the contract or order see Appendix A c). 11 Performance 11.1 Cloths comply
30、ing with this British Standard shall not damage the surface of the transparency in any way or leave lint on the surface. 11.2 In the event of dispute the cloths shall be subjected to the polishing test given in Appendix B. 33、-19993 12 Packing and labelling 12.1 Packing The cloths shall be packed in a sealed polythene bag. NOTE 1The number of cloths per package should be as stated in the contract or order see Appendix A d). NOTE 2MoD requirements for the number of cloths per package are given in Appendix C. 12.2 Labellin
34、g 12.2.1 The package shall be clearly labelled “Polishing cloth for aircraft transparencies” or “Polish application cloth for aircraft transparencies” as applicable. NOTE 1The type of cloths required should be stated in the contract or order see Appendix A e). NOTE 2Additional MoD requirements for l
35、abelling are given in Appendix C. 12.2.2 No individual cloth shall be marked or labelled in any manner. 13 Identification The cloths shall be identified for ordering purposes by the number of this British Standard, i.e. BS F 137:19891), together with the type and colour. NOTEThis identification may
36、be codified. For example, polish application cloth, dyed light blue may be identified as BS F 137/Application/light blue. 1) Marking BS F 137:1989 on or in relation to a product represents a manufacturers declaration of conformity, i.e. a claim by or on behalf of the manufacturer that the product me
37、ets the requirements of the standard. The accuracy of the claim is therefore solely the responsibility of the person making the claim. BS F 137; b) the colour of the finished cloths (see 5.2); c) the dimensions of the cloths (see note to 9.1); d) the number of cloths per package (see note to 12.1); e) the type of cloths required (see 12.2.1). Appendix B Polishing test to be used in the event of dispute B.1 General In the event o
40、f a dispute over the performance of polish application or polishing cloths complying with this British Standard, the polishing test given in B.2 and B.3 shall be applied. B.2 Polishing test B.2.1 The cloth shall be used with a polish complying with Ministry of Defence Aircraft Materials Specificatio
41、n DTD 770A2). B.2.2 The cloth shall be tested in accordance with the method given in Appendix III of DTD 770A. B.3 Result To comply with this British Standard the cloth shall demonstrate an efficiency in removing minor damage such that the decrease in light scattering shall be not less than 80 %. Ap
