9、spection and testing procedure 1.1 Except as provided in 1.2, 1.4, 2 and 7, this British Standard shall be used in conjunction with the relevant sections of BS 3 S 100 as follows: 1.2 Sulphur printing or deep etching tests. Samples shall be selected in accordance with BS 3S 100, Section 1, 7.2.1, ex
10、cept that a sample shall be taken from each end of each ingot. 1.3 Ultrasonic examination. Rolled billets and bars to this British Standard shall be subjected to ultrasonic examination for internal cavities in accordance with BS 3S 100, Appendix C. 1.4 Cast 1.4.1 Except as provided in 1.4.2, the wor
11、d “cast” shall mean the cast of vacuum remelted steel, i.e., each ingot from vacuum remelting becomes a cast. 1.4.2 Unless otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser, for the selection of mechanical test samples governed by BS 3S 100, Section 2, 4.1 and Section 5, 4.1, the word “cas
12、t” shall mean the parent air-melted cast, i.e., the cast of steel used for making consumable electrodes for vacuum arc remelting. Thus, where billets and bars are to be delivered in the softened condition, mechanical tests shall only be required from the product of one vacuum remelted ingot from eac
13、h parent cast. 2 Process of manufacture The final melting process shall be consumable electrode vacuum arc remelting and the electrodes shall be of the quality necessary to ensure the required quality in the remelted product. At no time during vacuum remelting shall material of any other composition
14、 or type be introduced into the vacuum melting chamber e.g., starter material and electrode stub ends shall be of the same specification as the material being remelted. The method employed for the manufacture of the steel for the electrodes shall be agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser
15、and shall be stated on the release note. 3 Chemical composition Each ingot of vacuum remelted steel shall contain: 4 Surface dressing The material shall be overall dressed in accordance with the requirements of BS 3S 100, Section 1, 5.1. Bars for machining delivered in other than the finally heat tr

18、ess otherwise agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser, in which case the condition in which the material is to be supplied shall be stated on the order. 5.2 Parts shall be supplied finally heat treated. 5.3 Parts made from forgings or bars shall be finally heat treated after being machined
19、 to as near finished size as practicable. 6 Final heat treatment 6.1 Except as provided in 6.2, the final heat treatment shall be: 1) Harden by cooling in still air from a temperature between 920 C and 970 C. 2) Temper at a suitable temperature between 500 C and 600 C. 6.2 Alternatively to 6.1, forg
