、 PAGE 1 1 Introduction Common, contract, and private motor carriers are concerned about the possible failure of hoses used on cargo tanks that transfer cryogenic liquid oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. These hoses are subject to wear and damage in the course of normal use. In-service inspections perform
、ed in addition to the inspections required during rou- tine maintenance shall be an integral part of the product transfer operations in which hoses are used. 2 Scope This standard provides industrywide procedures for the use and inspection of uninsulated cryogenic hose (also referred to as cryogenic
、 hose or hose). It is a guide for cargo tank hose users when they establish inspection procedures. It contains acceptance criteria appropriate for use during product transfers and routine mainte- nance. It represents the best currently available industry practice, but does not cover every possible h
、ose de- sign, installation, and lading. Each user can apply this standard to suit individual installation and conditions of service. Acceptance for continued service in accordance with this standard does not guarantee that a hose or coupling assembly is not dangerous or cannot fail. This standard do
、es not apply to vacuum-insulated hose or composite hose. 3 Definitions For the purpose of this standard, the following definitions apply. 3.1 Bulge Deformation caused by deterioration or damage to the reinforcement braid. 3.2 Cryogenic liquid Refrigerated, liquefied gas having a boiling point colder
、 than 130 F at 14.7 psi (90 C at 101.3 kPa).1, 2 NOTEOxygen, nitrogen, and argon can be supplied in liquid form. 3.3 Flat spot Deformation caused by forceful contact with a blunt object. An extreme example of a flat spot is caused by crushing a hose under the wheels of a vehicle. 3.4 Kink Deformatio
、n that results from bending the hose under its minimum static bend radius. This deformation is rec- ognized as a permanent set or deviation from straight when a hose is laid out in a straight line. 3.5 Maximum allowable working pressure (MAWP) One-fourth (25%) of the manufacturers minimum burst pres
、sure of the hose at 70 F (21.1 C). NOTEThe four to one (4:1) safety factor is standard in the manufacturing of hoses as an acceptable margin of safety. 3.6 Visual inspection criteria Criteria used to determine if a cryogenic hose is disqualified from service. 4 Cryogenic hose 4.1 Uninsulated hose Un

This inner core is typically covered with stainless steel braid wire that is interwoven
