1、Test Procedure Laboratory GMW3049 Defroster System Maximum Performance Validation for Passenger Vehicles 1 Introduction Note: Nothing in this procedure supersedes applica- ble laws and regulations unless a specific exemption has been obtained. Note: In the event of a conflict between the English and
2、 the domestic language, the English language will take precedence. 1.1 Purpose. Validation of the performance capabil- ity of a vehicle windshield and side window defrost- ing system using reproducible measurements in a cli- matic wind tunnel. 1.2 Foreword. Not applicable. 1.3 Applicability.For all
3、passenger vehicle de- froster systems. 1.4 Definitions. Pre-Soak:Allow vehicle to cool down with hood and doors or windows open (vehicle not operating). Soak:Allow vehicle to cool down and form ice on glazed surfaces, vehicle not operating. Warm Up:Vehicle warmed up at a defined vehicle speed accord
4、ing to the tunnel schedule (see 4.3.1). Test Temperature:The test temperature is the cli- matic tunnel ambient as defined per the VTS for the specific test condition. 5、. FMVSS 103SAE J902D 78/317/EEC 2.2 GM. None. 3 Resources 3.1 Facilities. Climatic wind tunnel including a chas- sis dynamometer with adjusting possibilities for a ve- hicle speed of 50 km/h minimum, a wind speed of 50 km/h minimum and an ambient temperature of -30 C minimum. 3.2 Equipment. 3.2.1 Te
6、mperature measuring and recording equip- ment for at least 14 measuring points. 3.2.2 Measuring and recording equipment for volt- age and current for compartment blower(s), battery(s) (voltage only). 3.2.3 Measuring and recording equipment for the en- gine speed. 3.2.4 Engine Oil/Coolant. As release
7、d for the en- gine at the test temperature. 3.2.5 Device for operation and adjustment of accel- erator pedal. 3.2.6 Spray gun for applying water to windshield (Binks Model 62 spray gun, with fluid nozzle 66 and air nozzle 66SD, 66SF, or equivalent equipment as specified in SAE J902D). 3.2.7 Device f
8、or measuring quantity of water re- quired. 3.2.8 Timing device with stopwatch functions. 3.2.9 Means of recording cleared glass area for all tests (felt tip marker, etc.). 3.2.10 Methylalcoholorequivalentdegreasing agent. 3.2.11 Window cleaning agent (3.5) % ammonia or equivalent). 3.3 Test Vehicle
9、/ Test Piece. Passenger vehicles equipped with a defroster system. 3.4 Test Time. See 4.3.1. 3.5 Test Required Information. Area of windshield and one front side window to calculate amount of wa- ter. The vision areas of the windscreen are described in 78/317/EEC and FMVSS 103. 3.6 Personnel / Skill

11、e 4.1 Preparation. The vehicle shall be prepared for the climatic tunnel using equipment and procedures according to 3.2 and 4.3.2. 4.1.1 Fuel. Use winter grade fuel for all engine appli- cations. 4.1.2 Cleaning of the Windows. The inner surfaces of the vehicle glass shall be completely degreased wi
12、th methyl alcohol or an equivalent degreasing agent. After drying, an ammonia solution of (3.5) % shall be applied. The surface treated in this manner shall be allowed to dry and then wiped with a dry cotton cloth. 4.1.3 Settings. The vehicle ventilation system con- trols shall be set to Full Hot, D
13、efrost, OSA and High blower(s). The vent outlets shall remain closed (if ap- plicable) unless side window defrosters are bleeds off the vent outlets. 4.1.4 Functional Operation of the System.Ver- ify the functional operation of all switches, controls, blower motor and fan. 4.2 Conditions. 4.2.1 Envi
14、ronmental Conditions.Deviations are specified by the VTS. Pre-soak temperature can be modified to accelerate test. Standard condition -Test temperature: (-6 1) C -Pre-soak: 5 C below test temperature 4.2.2 Test Conditions. Deviations from the require- ments of this test procedure shall have been agr
15、eed upon. Such requirements shall be specified on com- ponent drawings, test certificates, reports, etc. 4.2.2.1 Vehicle and WindSpeeds. Vehicle and wind speeds as specified in the tunnel schedule (see 4.3.1. Wind speed for pre-soak can be modified to acceler- ate test). 4.2.2.2 Electrical Power Sup
16、ply. All electrical sys- tems are supplied by the internal vehicle power sup- ply. 4.2.2.3 Soak. The engine oil temperature shall be equal to the test temperature ( 1 C). Water shall be applied to glazed surfaces according to 4.3.3. The frost shall cure from 1 h. Blower is in off position. 4.2.2.4 W
17、arm-Up. Headlights (low beam), electrical heated windshield, backlight defogging system and heated seats (if standard equipment) are switched on. Blower is in off position. Windshield wipers may be operated for certain vehicles as defined by the VTS. (default position for windshield wipers is Off) R
18、emark: If heated windshield or the backlight defog- ger is switched off automatically, it shall be switched back on. The heated seats shall be set to maximum perfor- mance. 4.2.2.5 Gear Steps or Drive Positions. The speci- fied vehicle speeds are driven at road load (on level stretches without accel
