IMPACT OF GDP PERFORMANCE OVER GAMBLING INDUSTRY IN CHINA GGR is directly rel
17、ated to growth of GDP in China as mainlanders account for half of the visitors arrival to Macau and 31% to Hong Kong. In 2011 it is expected that GDP growth will be approximately 10% while for Hong Kong to be around 4.5%. The Chinese economy is expected to show positive signs in the near future. The
18、 growth in the Chinese economy would not be affected by the recovery taking place in the US economy as the economic growth is more dependent on the internal demand and not on the trade activities. 2.4.8.8. RISING INCOME LEVEL Since 2003, the GDP has grown at a CAGR of 13% and reached USD 3,500. The
19、disposable income in the hands of individuals has increased by almost 25% since 2006. The unemployment rate has not been affected due to depression and has remained steady at 4.3% since 2002. The GDP growth is expected to reach 10% by 2011 and would have a positive effect on the employment rate. In
20、order to deal with the rising inflation and prevent consumers real income, seven provinces have increased the minimum level wage by a margin of 10-15%. It is also expected that other provinces would follow soon. The increasing demand for labor wages have led to confrontations between the labor and m
21、anagement and some of them have been successful in increasing their wages by 20-25%. In accordance with the rising income, in the last decade the spending has doubled. The number of outbound tourists have also increased 4 times and reached 48 million. The positive effect was felt in Macau as well, a
22、s the visitors per capita spending (without gaming) increased 29% and reached MOP 7k in 2009. Chinese visitors registered an increase of 60% and reached MOP 14k. It is expected that the income level of Chinese people would increase and so would their spending capacity which would augment well for th
23、e Macau gaming sector. 41 2.4.9. FUTURE OUTLOOK OF THE CASINO AND GAMING INDUSTRY IN CHINA In the historical period the lottery market has risen and the trend is likely to continue in the future as well. The lottery industry has suffered due to recession in the second half of 2009 but is expected to
24、 cover up for the losses in 2010. The lottery market is expected grow at a CAGR of 11.1% from 2010 to 2015 and will reach USD 46 billion by 2015.
