4、aced by AWS 5.18 (CRW) 1 SCOPE. These specifications (NOTE) cover seven classes of solid type carbon steel electrodes for the gas metal arc, gas tungsten and plasma arc welding of carbon steel and low alloy steel. (They are not intended to cover submerged arc welding electrodes. Composite and emissi
5、ve type products, also, are not covered.) NOTE: These specifications are based on American Welding Society Standard AWS 5.18. The only deviations of the GM Standards from the basic writing (on the date of issue) are (1) max cast circle diameters for selected sizes; (2) the addition of requirements f
6、or tensile strength and surface characteristics of electrodes; (3) straight lengths; (4) GM6044M prohibits the use of copper coatings; and (5) the addition of a provision for GM number call-out for all materials. To achieve a basis for enforcing the requirements added by GM, the GM number should be
7、used in conjunction with each classification symbol (e.g. GM6028M, Class ER70S-6). Use of the classification number alone on engineering drawings, purchase orders, and other records gives the supplier and other readers the preroga- tive of referring to the AWS writing, which does not include the sup
8、plementary data. Electrodes furnished to these specifications shall conform to all of the requirements published in American Welding Society Standard A
10、WS AS.18 (Latest date of issue), unless otherwise stated by the purchaser, or as amended by this specification. Portions of these requirements are duplicated below for convenience. 2.2 CHEMICAL COMPOSITION. Shall be as stated in Table 1. 2.3 MECHANICAL PROPERTIES. Shall be as stated in Table 2. 2.4
11、DIMENSIONS. Electrodes shall conform to the nominal size (diameter) specified by purchaser (normally selected from the standard sizes shown in Table 3) and within the diameter tolerances stated in Table 3; they shall be in continuous lengths, wound into coils, drums or spools as specified by pur- ch
12、aser (normally selected from Tables 3 and 4). 2.5 FINISH, TEMPER AND UNIFORMITY. 2.5.1 Electrodes shall have a smooth finish, free from slivers, depressions, scale, scratches, or other foreign matter that would adversely affect the welding properties or the operation of the welding equipment. Copper
13、 coatings on the GM6044M electrode shall be prohibited but is permissible for the GM6028M electrode. Other suitable coatings may be used. 2.5.2 The surface of the electrode, as drawn or as subse- quently treated and or lubricated, and the temper of the electrode shall be suitable for uniform uninter
14、rupted feeding on automatic or semi-automatic welding equipment. Tensile strength of electrodes (not weld deposit), as determined by ASTM ES, shall be as shown below: NOTE 1: Not applicable to electrodes on spools c 12 inch OD (25 lb). 2.6 COIL, RIM, SPOOL, DRUM, AND WINDING. 2.6.1 As specified by p
15、urchaser (normally selected from stan- dard sizes shown in Table 4). 2.6.2 Each coil with or without support, spool, or drum shall contain one continuous length of electrode made from a single heat or lot of material. 2.6.3 Butt welds, when present in the electrode, shall be suit- ably made so as no
16、t to interfere with the uniform uninterrupted feeding of the electrode on automatic and semi-automatic equipment. 2.6.4 The electrode shall be wound so as to avoid producing kinks, waves, or sharp bends which would interfere with the feeding of the wire and so that it is free to unwind without restr
17、iction. The starting end of the electrode shall be secured, identified and accessible. 2.7 CAST AND HELIX. 2.7.1 The cast of the electrode shall be such as to have imparted to the electrode a curvature so that a specimen suffi- cient in length to form one loop or a max of 10 linear feet, when cut fr
