This specification covers the mixture of an anaerobic two-part structural adhesive for hem flange bonding of exterior body panels. Sheet metal
2、 substrates include oily steels (galvanized and cold rolled) and aluminum. It is intended for application to take place in the body shop prior to ELPO primer bake. The adhesive cures at room tempemture to resist movement between inner and outer panels during body and paint shop processing. Full stre
3、ngth is obtained during ELPO primer bake. 1.1 The adhesive system is comprised of a resin component 9985870 and a hardener component 9985871. The mixture of 9985870 and 9985871 is identified as 9985872. 1.2 This system must be capable of being metered, mixed and dispensed with current production equ
4、ipment. It shall be com- patible with production paint systems and cannot be adversely affected by paint oven temperatures reaching 205C. 1.3 KEY PROPERTIES. The resin component contains glass beads to maintain bondline thickness and minimize squeeze- out due to anaerobic cure requirements of mixed
5、adhesive. The adhesive must not have any adverse effects on personnel handliug it. In addition. the supplier must receive approval form all Medical, Safety, and Industria
7、l Hygiene wnts before the material can be used in pro- duction. 3.2 MIXED ADHESIVE. Material conditioned using poten- tial storage conditions must be capable of passing all the requirements of this specification. 3.3 MIX RATIO. The ratio of resin to hardener is 4.0 to 1.0 by volume (3.4 to 1.0 by we
8、ight) and shall be capable of being varied f 5% and meet all the requirements of this specifica- tion. 3.4 COLOR. The two components shall be in contrasting colors. The colors shall be so picked, that, in instances of improper mixing, color striations shall be visible in the dis- pensed bead. 3.5 NO
9、NSMOKING (GM9799P). The adhesive shall not smoke up to 177C and shall not be classified greater than a slight smoker at 2OOC. 3.6 SHRlNKAGE PROCEDURE. 3.6.1 Spray stainless steel mold fixturt, 457.2 x 25.4 x 2.38 mm (18 x 1 x 3/32”), with mold release. 3.6.2 Cast a film of adhesive in the mold, fill
10、ing the entire cavity and smoothing the top with a tongue depressor. 3.6.3 cure/bake adhesive according to the specified parame- ters. 3.6.4 After adhesive and mold cool to room temperature, remove and measure length of cast, L ,+ L f may also be deter- mined by returning the cast to the mold and su
11、btracting the distance between the end of the cast and the end of the mold cavity from L i, the length of the mold cavity, 457.2 mm (18”). 3.6.5 Determine the % shrink from the following calculation: %shrink=lOOxL(Li 3.7 MATERuL PRoPEKIEs - uNcuRED ADHESIVE.
