11、 this British Standard is identical with IEC Publication 554-1 “Specification for cellulosic papers for electrical purposes” Part 1:1977 “Definitions and general requirements” including Amendment No. 1 published in 1983. It has been prepared under the direction of the General Electrotechnical Engine
12、ering Standards Committee. Other Parts of BS 5626 are as given under “Cross-references” in this national foreword. It is the intention that BS 5626 will ultimately replace BS 698:1956 “Papers for electrical purposes” and BS 4295:1968 “Capacitor tissue paper”. A decision on withdrawal of those standa
13、rds will be taken at an appropriate stage in the publication, as Part 3 of BS 5626, of the separate specification Sheets for the individual materials. Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable for publication, without deviation, as a British St
14、andard. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is especially drawn to the following. In the Introduction, the words “This standard is one of a series which deals with” should be interpreted as “BS 5626 deals with”; similarly, “This
15、series will have the three following parts” should be interpreted as “BS 5626 will have the three following Parts”. In clause 1 (“Scope”), the words “This part of the standard” should be interpreted as “This Part of BS 5626” or “This Part of this British Standard”. In connection with the definition
16、“Substance (grammage)”, there is a movement within the UK paper industry towards adoption of the ISO term “grammage”. NOTETextual errors. When adopting the text of the International Standard, the errors listed below were noticed. They have been reported to the International Electrotechnical Commissi
17、on in a proposal to amend the text of the International Standard. Clause 5, line 1: “micrometers” should be read as “micrometres”. Table I, general heading to columns 6 and 7, and asterisked footnote to Table I. “4m/Pa.s” should be read as “4m/(Pa.s)”. Table I, column 7 (“Air permeability. Descripti
18、on”): “ 0.05. u 5.0” should be read as “ 0.05 . u 0.5”.
