14、t the request of the British Electrical and Allied Manufacturers Association. It forms a part of BS 5000 which, together with BS 4999, “General requirements for rotating electrical machines”, will eventually form a comprehensive series of British Standards for rotating electrical machines. A list of
15、 the contents of BS 5000 showing all the parts envisaged in the foreseeable future is given in the General Introduction and Index (published separately) which will be brought up to date as new parts are published. The contents of BS 4999 are given in a separate index and introduction to that standar
16、d. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. 19、ies such as circulating water pumps, boiler feed pumps, draught fans, pulverisers, etc., essential to the operation of the main generating units. This standard does not include motors which may be used for non-essential drives, such as ventilating fans, drainage pumps, cranes, etc., which do not nor
20、mally differ from their counterparts in general industrial service. NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 General In addition to the requirements specified in this standard, motors shall also comply with BS 5000-99. 3 Types of environm
21、ental protection and classification of cooling methods Machines for indoor use shag have an enclosure giving a degree of protection not less than IP 12 (see BS 4999-105). For use outdoors or in exposed conditions, weather protected machines should be used, and the conditions should be specified at t
22、he time of enquiry. NOTEIn dirty atmospheres or other adverse conditions a closed air circuit machine may be required which may be either air or water cooled, depending on the coolant most readily available. For such machines the collector enclosure may alternatively be filter-ventilated, when this
23、is agreed between the manufacturer and the purchaser. 4 Duty and rating Machines shall be suitable for maximum continuous rating (MCR) or duty-type rating (DTR). NOTEAdjustable speed machines are normally rated at the highest and lowest speeds of the specified range; it is assumed that the load char
