This Section is one of a series of Sections and Subsections that comprises BS 5600. The contents of BS 5600 are given in Section 1.1. Section 1.2 is a gloss

10、6:1985 BSI 10-19991 1 Scope This Section of BS 5600 describes a method for determining the flowability1) of metallic powders, including powders for hardmetals, by means of a calibrated funnel (Hall flowmeter). The method applies only to powders which flow freely through the specified test orifice (s
11、ee Figure 1). NOTEThe titles of the publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 2 Principle Measurement of the time required for 50 g of a metallic powder to flow through the orifice of a calibrated funnel of standardized dimensions. 3 Apparatus 3.1 Calibrated funn
12、el (see clause 4) having the dimensions shown in Figure 1. The funnel shall be made of non-magnetic, corrosion-resistant metallic material having a wall thickness and hardness that shall be capable of withstanding distortion and excessive wear. The dimensions with tolerances shall be as shown in Fig
13、ure 1. 3.2 Stand and horizontal vibration-free base which shall support the funnel rigidly, as shown in Figure 2. 3.3 Balance which shall be at least of sufficient capacity for the powder samples and shall be capable of weighing the test portion to an accuracy of 0.05 g. 3.4 Stopwatch which shall be
14、 capable of measuring elapsed time to an accuracy of 0.2 s. 1) Flowability is defined in BS 5600-1.2 as “Qualitative term describing the behaviour of a powder when flowing through an opening or a restricted space such as the opening in a die”. 16、shall be used for calibration of the funnel. This powder shall be prepared by drying in air at 110 C for 30 min and cooling in a desiccator. When tested according to this British Standard in the standard funnel, this material gives a flow time of 40.0 s per 50 g. 4.2 Calibration of the funnel by the
17、 manufacturer The flow time of the reference sample shall be determined in accordance with the method described in this standard. The arithmetic mean value of the results of five determinations shall be stamped on the funnel. This number shall be 40 0.5 s and the extremes of the results of five dete
18、rminations shall differ by not more than 0.4 s. The correction factor of the funnel is 40.0 divided by the numerical value stamped on the funnel. 4.3 Calibration of the funnel by the user The flowability of the reference sample shall be determined in accordance with the method given in 4.2. If the f
19、low time has changed from that stamped on the funnel, the new correction factor shall be 40.0 divided by this new value. NOTE 1It is recommended that the correction factor be periodically verified by the user. NOTE 2It is recommended that before a new correction factor is adopted the cause of the ch
20、ange be investigated. If the flow time has decreased it is probable that repeated use has burnished the orifice and a new correction factor is justified. An increase in flow time may indicate a coating of soft powder on the orifice. This coating should be carefully removed and the calibration test r
