The functio
7、ns, features, protocol, and services of the Logical Link Control (LLC) sublayer, which constitutes the top sublayer in the data link layer of the ISO/IEC 8802 LAN protocol, are described. The services required of, or by, the LLC sublayer at the logical interfaces with the network layer, the medium a
8、ccess control (MAC) sublayer, and the LLC sublayer management function are specifi ed. The protocol data unit (PDU) structure for data communication systems is defi ned using bit-oriented procedures, as are three types of operation for data communication between service access points. In the fi rst
9、type of oper- ation, PDUs are exchanged between LLCs without the need for the establishment of a data link connection. In the second type of operation, a data link connection is established between two LLCs prior to any exchange of information-bearing PDUs. In the third type of operation, PDUs are e

Use of an IEEE Standard is wholly voluntary. The existence of an IEEE Standar

Furthermore, the viewpoint expressed at the time a standard is approved and issued is subject to change brought about through deve

When a document is more than fi ve years old and has not been reaffi rmed, it is rea- sonable to conclude that its

Comments for revision of IEEE Standards are welcome from any interested party, regardless of membership affi

Interpretations: Occasionally questions may arise regarding the meaning of portions of standards as they relate to specifi c applications. When t
18、he need for interpretations is brought to the attention of IEEE, the Institute will initiate action to prepare appropriate responses. Since IEEE Standards represent a consensus of all concerned interests, it is important to ensure that any interpretation has also received the concurrence of a balanc

For this reason IEEE and the members of its technical committees are not able to pro- vide an instant response to interpretation requests except in those cases where the matter has previously received formal consideration. Comments on standards and requests for interpretations should
