The Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations
22、 1992 1 and Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1993 2 set requirements for washrooms, toilets, and facilities for rest, eating meals and changing clothing. Buildings or parts of buildings containing such facilities require planning and building regulation approval,
23、 unless exempted. 4.2 The Dairy Products (Hygiene) Regulations 1995 3 require that washing facilities be provided on the premises used by registered dairy farms. 4.3 Provision for the disabled in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 4 may be required. 5 Siting 5.1 Location Amenity
24、buildings and farm shops should be sited away from fuel and other flammable liquid stores, slurry storage tanks, reception pits, lagoons and fertilizer and chemical stores, and preferably separated from buildings housing noisy plant and equipment. Apart from the special requirements that apply to wa
25、shroom facilities associated with chemical stores (see BS 5502 : Part 81) and milking premises (see BS 5502 : Part 49), other amenities should be sited as far as possible away from such premises. 5.2 Access routes Amenity buildings should be sited so as to allow easy access without the need to trave
26、l past areas of identified hazard. Buildings intended for public use should also have easy access for fire and other emergency service vehicles. Routes should be easily identifiable and clearly signposted. 6 Sanitary appliances 6.1 Sufficient sanitary appliances should be provided to enable employee
27、s at work to use them without undue delay, taking into account the location of the workplace, the length of time each day for which it is used, and the number of staff working there. The minimum number of sanitary appliances which should be provided is given in table 1. The number of employees, show
28、n in column 1, refers to the maximum number likely to be in the workplace at any one time. Where separate sanitary accommodation is provided for a group of workers, for example office workers, manual workers, or people in isolated areas of the workplace, a separate calculation should be made for eac

The interior of a room housing a sanitary appliance should not be visible, even with the door open, by members of the opposite sex, and urinals should not be visible from any place where people work or pass. Sanitary facilities should

Domestic wastewater should not normally be drained into systems draining agricultural or horticultural wastewater. 8 Environment 8.1 Temperature Provision should be made to allow
39、the internal air temperature to be maintained at not less than 16 C for offices, mess rooms, medical rooms, veterinary stores, washrooms and toilets. 8.2 Ventilation For comfort, airflow should be restricted to between 0.15 m/s and 0.3 m/s. Airflows below 0.1 m/s are considered as airless and above
40、0.5 m/s as draughty (see BS 5925). Requirements for ventilation, natural or mechanical, are set out in Approved Document F of the Building Regulations 1991 5, Part K of the Building Regulations (Northern Ireland) 1994 6, and Part K of Regulation 23 of the Building Standards (Scotland) Regulations 19
41、90 7. 9 Warning and safety signs It is essential that amenity buildings should have adequate warning signs, as appropriate.
