Note: In the event of conflict between the English and domestic language, the English language shall take precedence. 1.1 Scope.This specification details the performance requirements for a pressure sensitive vibration damping rubber based material whic
3、h is laminated to a film/constraining layer. The composition/base of the film can be chosen by region/plant when the required performances are achieved. Material may be applied in body shop, paint shop or trim shop on flat or gently contoured surfaces The part is supplied with the adhesive surface p
4、rotected by a release paper After removal of the release paper these materials shall have satisfactory pressure sensitive tack to a variety of metals with production processing oils, ELPO and substrates with paint and paint overspray. These types of materials shall be utilized for local vibration an
5、d sound damping and shall withstand production phosphatizing, ELPO, primer/surfacer and topcoat bake operations exhibiting temperatures up to +205 C. 1.1.1 Only for GMNA. The composite material is provided in various drawing specified part sizes. The constraining layer, if aluminum, will comply with
6、 SAE J454. Constraining layers other than aluminum can be used. If no constraining layer is specified then constraining layer will be assumed to be aluminum. 1.2 Mission/Theme. The test facilities and equipment shall be in good working order and shall have
10、a valid calibration label. 3.1.2 Test Data. Lab testing shall be performed by a laboratory that conforms (see Note) to ISO/IEC 17025 and should be or is acceptable to the customer (GM). Test reports must conform to paragraph 5.10.2 and 5.10.3 of ISO/IEC 17025. Supplier shall submit a letter of compl
11、iance. Note: Meet requirements, may not be formally recognized by a third party. 3.1.3 Facilities. Not applicable. 3.1.4 Equipment. Not applicable. 3.1.5 Test Vehicle/Test Piece. Not applicable. 3.1.6 Test Time. Not applicable. 3.1.7 Test Required Information. All testings outlined in paragraph 4.2.
12、4, 4.2.5, 4.2.6, 4.2.8, 4.3.6, 4.3.7, 4.3.11, 4.3.12 shall be done on following substrates. 3.1.7.1 For bodyshop application. (1) GMW2 (cold rolled steel) (2) GMW8 (electro-galvanized steel) (3) GMW11 (hot dip galvanized steel) (4) GMW15192 (aluminum) (5) other substrates identified and required by
13、the regional material Engineering group with oiled surfaces according to the specific local production processing oils (see local specification). 3.1.7.2 For paint shop application. (6) Elpo GMW3008 3.1.7.3 for trim shop application. (7) Approved Paint Systems to be chosen by each region. Primer sys
14、tem to GMW3002 and topcoat system per to GMW3005. All tests shall be done with at least a set of five (5) test samples. 3.1.8 Personnel/Skills. Not applicable. 3.2 Preparation. 3.2.1 Test Piece Preparation. Processing temperature of the damping film is (+20+40) C. All samples used for the testing ou
15、tlined in paragraph 4.2.6, 4.3.6.2, 4.3.11, 4.3.12 shall be prepared according to the schedules outlined below. 3.2.1.1 For Body Shop Application. Degreasing and oiling (3 g/m max., oil quality according to the specific local production processing oils) of the substrates to be tested (according to p
16、aragraph 3.1.7.1) according to VDA 230-201. Test piece with a length of 200 mm and a width of 10 mm is adhered centrally to the test sheet (250 x 100) mm). Then with a roller (2000 20) g; dimensions according to GME 60318) is rolled over the test piece adhered to the test sheet twice in each directi
17、on at a speed of 10 mm/s without applying additional force. (No covering with a second sheet metal) For GMNA prepare metal test plaques by degreasing and oiling according to GM9801P. 3.2.1.2 For Paint Shop Application. Test piece with a length of 200 mm and a width of 10 mm is adhered centrally to t
18、he Elpo-test sheet (according to paragraph 3.1.7.2; (250 x 100) mm). Then with a roller (2000 20) g; dimensions according to GME 60318) is rolled over the test piece adhered to the test sheet twice in each direction at a speed of 10 mm/s without applying additional force. (No covering with a second
19、sheet metal). 3.2.1.3 For Trim Shop Application. Test piece with a length of 200 mm and a width of 10 mm is adhered centrally to the painted test sheet (according to paragraph 3.1.7.3; (250 x 100) mm). Then with a roller (2000 20) g; dimensions according to GME 60318) is rolled over the test piece a
20、dhered to the test sheet twice in each direction at a speed of 10 mm/s without applying additional force (no covering with a second sheet metal). 3.2.2 Adhesive Cure Schedule. All samples used for the testing outlined in paragraph 4.3 shall be cured according to the schedules outlined below. Special
21、 pretreatments before curing may be identified and required by the regional material Engineering group. 3.2.2.1 Body Shop Applications. 3.2.2.1.1 Minimum Cure Schedule. 24、is specification shall be tested for conformity with the requirements of this specification and approved by the responsible GM Department prior to the start of delivery of production level components or materials. Any change to the component or material, e.g., design, function, properties, manufactu
25、ring process and/or location of manufacture requires a new release of the product. It is the sole responsibility of the supplier to provide the customer, unsolicited, with documentation of any change or modification to the product/process, and to apply for a new release. If not otherwise agreed to t
26、he entire verification test shall be repeated and documented by the supplier prior to start of delivery of the modified or changed product. In some cases a shorter test can be agreed to between the responsible GM Department and the supplier. 3.7.1 Test Results. With reference to this specification t
27、he test results shall be represented in a test report. 3.7.2 Deviations from Test Procedure. Deviations from the requirements of the test procedures shall have been agreed upon. Such requirements shall be specified on component drawings, test certificates, reports, etc. 4 Requirements and Procedure
28、All materials tested to this specification shall be conditioned for 24 h according to GMW3221 Code A. NOTE: The values of some properties and performance parameters (e.g. tensile strength, tear strength) may depend upon direction along the material. Therefore, it may be necessary to perform some tes
29、ts both parallel and perpendicular to machine direction in order to determine the true minimum and maximum values for conformance to requirements of this specification. 4.1 Requirements on Delivery. 4.1.1 Thickness. 4.1.1.1 Thickness, butyl. Maximum thickness of the composite is as specified on the
30、engineering drawing. 4.1.1.2 Thickness, Constraining Layer Film. Thickness of the film is not specified, but must be such as to meet all performance requirements of this specification. Thickness may be specified on the engineering drawing. Film thickness must be stated by material supplier at time o
31、f request for material approval. GME: Maximum thickness of the Constraining Layer Film is as specified on the engineering drawing. 4.1.2 Weight per Unit Area (GMW3182). Weight shall be specified on the engineering drawing. Weight per Unit Area shall be determined with scales providing on accuracy of
32、 1 g. 4.1.3 Specific Gravity (ISO 845). Specific gravity range shall be 2.02.8. and shall be maintained within 10 % of that approved value. 4.1.4 Storage stability after Material Reception (GM9763P). Material as supplied shall exhibit a storage stability of at least 90 days (at a temperature ? +35 C
33、). 4.1.4.1 Elevated Temperature Stability (only GMNA). The sealer, as shipped, shall be capable of withstanding 72 h at +54 C. 4.1.4.2 Low Temperature Stability (only for GMNA). The sealer, as shipped, shall be capable of withstanding 3 cycles, as detailed in GM9763P. 4.1.5 Odor. To GMW3205 - Rating
34、 6 min. 4.1.6 Hardness (ASTM D5). The hardness as received, using a Needle Penetrometer under the following conditions: Base material at +25 C, 100 g load, a 5 s reading, shall be within the range of (5.015.0) mm. 35、ll Rights Reserved Page 4 of 6February 2007 4.2 Processing Requirements. 4.2.1 Blocking Resistance. The material, as packaged, shall be easily separated and shall not stretch, lose shape or stick to each other when pulled apart. 4.2.2 Release Liner Removal. The release liner paper or film shall be r
36、eadily removed from the sealer without tearing or delamination of the part or release liner. Removal shall be accomplished with a force not to exceed 4 N/100 mm width. 4.2.3 Adhesive Contact (GM3612M). Adhesive wet out shall be 90% min. when applied to glass with a 454 g roller 4.2.4 Repositionabili
37、ty. Material applied to a test panel must release cleanly for repositioning and then be capable of re-adhesion per specification requirements (substrates according to paragraph 3.1.7). 4.2.5 Sag and Slide Test. To GMW3025 on vertical sheets (substrates according to paragraph 3.1.7; test piece prepar
38、ation according to paragraph 3.2.1), even in overhead working after curings according to paragraph 3.2.2. No sagging or sliding 4.2.6 Wash-out Losses. According to GME 60434; (substrates according to paragraph 3.1.7; test piece preparation according to paragraph 3.2.1.) Material must not wash out. 4
39、.2.7Compatibility with Painting Process. To GM9532P. No contamination or cratering. Material must not affect any of the paint processing, such as oven fouling, dirt in paint, or chemical degradation of the paint system. NOTE: Paint Engineering approval is required for each specific vehicle/paint sho
40、p application. A plant tryout may be required at the option of Paint Engineering. 4.2.8Dimensional Stability (GMW4217) No visible shrinkage which exposes any sheet metal upon which the damper is applied is permitted. 4.3 Performance Requirements for Damping Film after run-through the paint process.
41、All samples used for the testing outlined in this paragraph shall be cured according to the schedules outlined in paragraph 3.2.2. Special pretreatments before curing may be identified and required by the regional material Engineering group. 4.3.1 Odor. To GMW3205 - Rating 6 min. 4.3.2 Emission Test
42、. According to GMW8081 by headspace GC-MS. No emissions. 4.3.3 Volatile Components.According to GMW3016. 2 % by mass 4.3.4 Fogging. To GMW3235 Method A, T-3. The unbaked composite as applied, before and after bake conditions outlined in paragraph 3.2.2, shall exhibit a minimum gloss meter reading of
43、 60. 4.3.5 Structure (Tape). Homogeneous. 4.3.6 Peel resistance and Adhesion. Vibration Damping/Deadener Patches candidates shall be evaluated for resistance to peel and separation mode. Samples testing shall be done in sample “sets”. Five (5) samples shall constitute a “set”. 4.3.6.1 Resistance to
44、peel (GME 60318). Vibration Damping/Deadener Patches candidates shall be evaluated using the “peeling force” configuration. Determination of the peel resistance shall be done to establish the peeling force of the Vibration. Damping/Deadener Patches. Substrates according to paragraph 3.1.7. Exhibitin
45、g resistance to peel to GME 60318: 11 N/cm min. 4.3.6.2 Adhesion.Adhesion shall be tested according to GMW14706 to establish separation mode. Substrates according to paragraph 3.1.7. Test piece preparation according to paragraph 3.2.1. The only acceptable separation mode of the adhesive shall be “co
46、hesive” within the adhesive layer. “Adhesive” separation of the adhesive layer to a test substrate shall be deemed unacceptable. 4.3.7 Resistance to Peel and Adhesion. 4.3.7.1 Initial Test. Resistance to peel and adhesion test samples shall be tested after adhesive cure. This testing shall be done n
47、o sooner than sixteen (16) hours after completion of the cure schedule. 4.3.7.2 Humidity Test. To GMW14729. Two “sets” of cured adhesion test samples shall be tested for separation mode after 240 h of exposure to high humidity. Testing shall be done on one set of samples immediately after removal fr
48、om environment and on another set of samples after a minimum of 24 h “recovery” from environment. Two “sets” of cured adhesion test samples shall be tested for separation mode after 480 h of exposure to NSS. Testing shall be done on one set of samples immediately after removal from environment and on another set of samples after a minimum of 24 h “recovery” from environment.
