10、eword This Part of this British Standard has been prepared under the direction of the Fibres, Yarns and Fabrics Standards Committee. A separate British Standard is being prepared dealing with the making-up requirements for curtains and drapes. While a consumer is likely to be interested primarily in
11、 such properties as colour fastness and dimensional stability, fire safety advisers may be interested primarily in the flammability aspects of a product. For this reason, the standard is divided into two Parts: Part 1: General requirements; Part 2: Flammability requirements. Either Part may be used
12、individually or both Parts may be used together, though it is stressed that a fabric complying only with the requirements of Part 2 may not be satisfactory for use as a curtain fabric. Attention is also drawn to BS 5360 which specifies performance requirements for laminated fabrics for curtains. A B

Except where otherwise indicated, these requirements a
16、lso apply to fabrics for window blinds. 2 References The titles of the standards publications referred to in this standard are listed on the inside back cover. 3 Sampling A sample shall be taken of sufficient size to provide the required test specimens from each batch or from at least every 5 000 m
17、unless otherwise agreed between the purchaser and the supplier. 4 Performance requirements 4.1 General. For a fabric to carry the claim that it is cleanable both by washing and by dry cleaning, it shall meet the washing and dry cleaning requirements for colour fastness (see 4.2) and for dimensional
18、stability (see 4.3). Where it is supplied with restrictions regarding cleaning, it need not meet the requirements excluded by such restrictions. Any restricted serviceability shall be indicated in the instructions concerning care (see clause 5). 4.2 Colour fastness. When tested by the methods given
19、in BS 1006 the colour fastness requirements given in Table 1 shall apply. The requirements for colour fastness to washing and/or dry cleaning do not apply to window blind fabrics. 4.3 Dimensional stability. The appropriate test method for dimensional stability shall be selected from 4.3.1 and/or 4.3
20、.2 and shall be reflected in the information to be given on care of the fabric (see clause 5). NOTEHandling during making-up can cause extension which may lead to dimensional changes in the made-up curtain that differ from the values given in 4.3.1 and 4.3.2. The requirements for dimensional stabili
21、ty do not apply to window blind materials. 4.3.1 Dimensional stability to washing. When tested by the appropriate method given in BS 4923 the mean dimensional change in width and length of the fabric shall not exceed 3 %. 22、ng. When tested by the method given in BS 4961-1, the mean dimensional change in width and length of the fabric shall not exceed 3 %. 5 Labelling Each roll of fabric shall have a label, attached in such a way that it can be retained with the roll, giving the following information. For fabrics suppli
23、ed against a pattern, the information shall be available with the pattern. a) The number of this British Standard, i.e. BS 5867-1. b) The manufacturers name, trademark or other means of identification. c) Instructions on any precautions to be taken concerning care, including cleansing of the curtain
24、, drape or blind to be manufactured from the fabric, using an appropriate care labelling symbol complying with the requirements of BS 2747 and taking account of the performance requirements specified in clause 4. If the fabric is unsuitable for cleansing, this shall be stated on the label. d) Fibre
25、content of the fabric as required by The Textile Products (Indications of Fibre Content) Regulations SI 2124:1973.
