3、0 DC ISBN 0 580 10251 3 Foreword The methods given in this Part of this British Standard cover both solid and liquid adhesives. The choice of method depends primarily on whether the adhesive is a solid or a liquid and also on the accuracy required. Method 2 is the method most commonly used for hot m

Since this Part of this British Standard was first published, the density balance method (method 4) has been deleted as red

Details of the methods are given in Table 1. 2 References This Part makes reference to the following standards publications: B

12、 use. 3 Method 1. Density matching method (For solid adhesives and film adhesives.) NOTEBS 3715 describes a density column method widely used in the plastics field; the method given below is a simplified version commonly used for adhesives. 3.1 General. This method gives results to an accuracy of tw

Choose a small test piece of solid adhesive or film adhesive that contains no visible impurity
15、or entrained air bubbles and that has a mass of approximately 0.1 g to 0.2 g. Half fill the glass cylinder with the water which is at a temperature of 20 2 C and drop the test piece of adhesive into the water. According to whether the adhesive floats or sinks, add either the ethanol or the glycerol

Determine the density of the liquid using the appropriate hydrometer. Repeat the test using further test pieces of adhesive until two consecutive results d

Calculate the arithmetic mean of the results of the two valid determinations and express the result in g/cm3. 4 Method 2. Using a suitable length of non-absorbent filament, suspend the test piece of adhesive or film adhesive (not less than 0.5 g)
22、 from the hook on the balance so that the test piece is about 25 mm above the straddle. Weigh the filament beforehand or counterbalance it when weighing the test piece (see note 1). Weigh the test piece to the nearest 0.001 g. Fill the beaker with the water which is at a temperature of 23 2 C, place
23、 it on the straddle and immerse the test piece and, if required, the sinker (see note 2). Remove any air bubbles adhering to the test piece (see note 3) and weigh to the nearest 0.001 g. Watch the pointer on the balance for a few seconds to make sure that it does not gradually drift owing to convect
24、ion currents. NOTE 1If the filament used is less than 0.010 g in mass, such as is the case with thin nylon filament, the correction to account for its mass is not necessary to ensure the stated accuracy of the final result. NOTE 2If the procedure is used for an adhesive having a density less than 1
