、 BSI BS 5815-1:1989 ii BSI 03-1999 Foreword This Part of BS 5815 has been prepared under the direction of the Textiles and Clothing Standards Committee and forms a part revision of BS 5815:1979 which will be withdrawn on publication of all three Parts. This revision of BS 5815 includes additional pr
、oducts and is being published in three Parts as follows: Part 1: Specification for sheeting, sheets and pillowslips; Part 2: Specification for towels and napkins; Part 3: Specification for counterpanes1). In this Part, which specifies the requirements for sheeting, sheets and pillowslips, the princi
、pal changes from the previous edition are: a) inclusion of an additional fibre type, i.e. 100 % polyester; b) exclusion of modal fibre on the grounds of non-usage; c) withdrawal of sheets previously designated SH2, SH4 and SH7. To avoid confusion the SH series of sheets has not been renumbered and t
、he notation of the remaining sheets is the same as in the previous edition. Every effort has been made to retain the references in the previous edition, but it should be noted that fabric SW1 was previously ST6. The format used is that the standard first defines the fabrics and then the articles mad
、e from each fabric. For clarity and ease of communication each fabric has a reference comprising two letters, followed by a number to indicate the width option. BS 5815 covers only the basic description of the products and their construction and performance requirements. Purchasing authorities there
、fore may need to include additional information. This Part of BS 5815 covers the end products quoted but can also be used to specify the fabric from which they are manufactured. Many properties cannot be specified objectively and cannot therefore be included in this standard. Examples of such proper
、ties include colour, handle, appearance and details of additional design features. Public sector purchasing authorities may be able to supply standard patterns which cover these properties and serve to resolve any ambiguities of description. This Part of BS 5815 does not include a requirement for el
、ectrostatic properties. Some of the articles may, on this account, not be suitable for use in some locations in health care premises. Attention is drawn to DHSS requirements precluding the use of static-prone textiles in operating theatres. Equally, the standard does not cover requirements for physi
、ological comfort and again there may be some medical situations where not all of the products are equally suitable. There are particular requirements for sheets and pillowslips for rail transport which are included in this Part of BS 5815. 1) In preparation. Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, n

Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does
、 not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. In particular, attention is drawn to Statutory Instrument 1986 No. 26, the Textile Products (Indications of Fibre Content) Regulations 1986. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i to iv, pages 1 to
、 4, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Mon Dec 04 14:08:01 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontroll
