、INDUSTRIAL STANDARD JIS R 2208 : 1998 Dense shaped refractory products- Determination of permanent change in dimensions on heating Introduction This Standard is the Japanese Industrial Standard prepared based on IS0 2478, Dense shaped refractory products-Determination of permanent change in dimensio
、ns on heating, published in 1987 as the second edition in accordance with the structure of the original International Standard) however, part of contents of the Standard has been altered in conformity with the actual circumstances of our country. The places underlined with dots in this Standard show
、 that the contents of the original International Standard have been altered, or that the matters are not in- cluded in the original International Standard. 1 Scope This Japanese Industrial Standard specifies the two measuring methods for permanent change in dimensions of dense shaped refractory bric
、ks. It does not apply to products containing carbon. 2 Normative references Normative references to this Standard are given in the following. IS0 5017 Dense shaped refractory products-Determination of bulk density, ap- parent porosity and true porosity . . Informative reference : The contents are eq

IS0 5022 Shaped refractory products-Sampling and acceptance testing Informative reference : The contents are equivalent to JIS Z 9001, General rules for sampling inspection procedu
、res. . 3 Definitions For the purposes of this Standard, the following definitions apply. 3.1 permanent change in dimensions on heating The expansion or contrac- tion that remains in a shaped refractory product that is heated to a specified tem- perature for a specified time and then cooled to ambien
、t temperature. 3.2 dense shaped refractory product A refractory product having a true porosity (volumetric percentage) of less than 45 % when measured in accordance with IS0 5017. Informative reference : This true porosity coincides with the true porosity Pt ob- tained by using the bulk density D b

、hwise dimension (method 1) or volume (method 2) is measured. In a furnace which has been maintained of oxidizing atmosphere, the test piece is heated to a prescribed temperature at a specified heating rate, and is maintained for a prescribed time. After being cooled to an ambient temperature, the me
、asurement on the test is car- ried out again, and the permanent rate of linear change or rate of volumetric change is calculated. 5 Apparatus 5.1 Furnace An electric furnace or a gas furnace capable of heating the test pieces in accordance with 6.2 in a continuous oxidizing atmosphere, at the temper
、ature rise of specified rate (see 7.6) and at the test temperature for the prescribed time. The use of the electric furnace is recommended, but the gas fur- nace may also be used, provided that the furnace atmosphere is kept continuously oxidizing and that there is an equipment for monitor- ing this
、 condition. Remarks: 5.2 Thermocouple thermometers In order to measure the temperature and tem- perature distribution over the peripheries of spaces occupied by the test pieces, at least three sets shall be prepared. 5.3 Temperature time recorder The temperature shall be recorded continu- ously usin
、g the temperature * time recorder in conjunction with the thermocouples (5.2). 5.4 whichever of the following methods. Length-measuring device (for Method 1) It shall be in accordance with (1) It should preferably be that of a dial gauge apparatus consisting of a dial-gauge or micrometer of 0.01 mm
、in minimum reading value, mounted on a stand which has a surface-ground base plate (Fig. i ) , as well as a test piece supporting stand having three studs to support the test piece and two pins to locate it as shown in Fig. 2. The back surface of the supporting stand shall be ground flat and smooth.
、 A diagonal mark shall be inscribed at one corner of the supporting stand en- abling a rectangular test piece to be placed symmetrically on the studs. A col- umn of known length shall be used to calibrate the graduation of the apparatus. Informative reference : The supporting stand shall be used to
、support and lo- cate the test piece so that the measurements with the dial-gauge or micrometer before and after heating are to be executed at the same points on the test piece surface. , 5.5 Volume-measuring device (for Method 2) It shall be the water-displace- ment system, and by this system the bu
