、nese Industrial Standard specifies the method for emis- sion spectrochemical analysis by photographic photometry of those chemical components (aluminium, copper, iron, manganese, silicon, nickel, and zinc) specified in JIS H 2150. 2. General Items The general items common to the methods of analysis
、shall be as specified in JIS K 0050 and J I S Z 2612. 3. Methods of Sampling and Treatment of Specimens The methods of sampling and treatment of sample shall be as specified in J I S H 1321. In the case of a magnesium metal in molten condition, the sample shall be taken by cutting a bar-shaped sampl
、e cast by using a mould lined with magnesium, and in the case of a magnesium ingot, chipped samples shall be taken from several portions excluding the surface layers by using a drill. 4. Method of Indication of Analytical Values The analytical values shall be indicated in percentage and the numerica
、l values shall be arranged as follows: (1) The contents of impurities shall be calculated to the place next to that specified in JIS H 2150 and then rounded off to the specified place according to JIS Z 8401. However, the significant numerical values of impurity percentage in this standard shall be

、d. 5. Method of Determination 5.1 Classification of Method The method of determination used shall be the solution arc method. 5.2 Solution Arc Method 5.2.1 Summary The sample is decomposed with hydrochloric acid and concentrated by heating to almost a definite volume. One end of a graphite electrode
、 heated by blank burning is immersed in this solution and impregnated with the solution and then dried. The sample electrode thus obtained is caused to emit light and the emitted light shall be photographed by a spectrograph, and the intensity of the spectral line shall be measured. 5.2.2 Preparatio
、n Method for Sample The sample shall be prepared according t o the following procedures: (1) Sample for Analysis Weigh out 1.0 g of sample, transfer into a beaker (100 mi), cover with a watch glass, add 10 ml of hydrochloric acid (1+1) little by little t o decompose the sample, and decompose it comp

Note (l) Where the sample is difficult to dissolve com- Concentrate the solution slightly pletely with hydrochloric acid because of the high contents of copper and nickel, a small quantity of nitric acid shall
、 be added. (2) Standard Sample After decomposing pure metallic magnesium with hydrochloric acid, recrystallize and refine the ob- tained solution until no impurity elements are detected by spectrochemical analysis. Add the various kinds of standard metal solutions of 5.2.3 respectively to a given qu
、antity of the above refined magnesium chloride solution (i g Mg/lO ml) by using a microburette or measuring pipette. Thus prepare several standard solutions corresponding to various stages of purity. Where magnesium ingots having various stages of purity are readily available, the standard sample ma

、ll be prepared to contain 10 mg of metal element in 1 ml of solution. These standard solutions shall be suitably diluted with water when used.
