DEC2007 SURFACE VEHICLE RECOMMENDED PRACTICE Issued 1963-01 Revised 2007-12 Superseding J846 JAN2004 Coding Systems for Identification of Fluid Conductors and Connectors RATIONALE This revision to SAE J846
5、is to add fitting type codes and fitting shape codes used in SAE J1754-2 and SAE J1754-3 for ordering information. Added a new Table 9 to separate the hose fitting attachment type from the descriptions in Tables 6A and 6B and removed the redundant codes. All codes removed from Tables 6A and 6B are l
6、isted in Appendix B until all other standards that use the SAE J846 nomenclature can be revised. Revised SAE J1926 codes to remove the relationship of ISO11926 and made other miscellaneous description improvements to SAE J846. NOTE: This draft of SAE J846 revisions needs to be coordinated with the a
7、doption of S2-J1754-1 the second part, a group of numbers, sometimes combined with letters, symbolizing the fitting and hose identification; the third part, a letter symbolizing the material with finish, where applicable; and the fourth part, another letter symbolizing assembly, if applicable, as sh
8、own in Figure 1A. When ordering metric base fittings or components for metric tubing, see 3.1.1.6 and/or 3.1.2 for details. EXAMPLE: A 37 degree flare tee for 1/2 in OD tubing made from corrosion protected carbon steel and assembled with sleeves and nuts is designated as shown in Figure 1A. FIGURE 1
9、A - PART IDENTIFICATION NUMBER (PIN) EXAMPLE 3.1.1 Size Identification The fitting size shall be identified by a series of dash numbers, each representing the size of the respective fitting ends. The size of the tube end shall precede the size of the pipe, hose, or other ends of the fitting. The das
10、h shall be given in the sequence defined in Figure 1B: FIGURE 1B - DASH SEQUENCE When special size combinations of tube-to-tube fitting ends are specified, the largest tube size shall precede the smaller tube size for unions and union elbows. For tees, the (1) shall be the larger tube size of (1) an
11、d (2). For crosses, the (1) shall be the largest tube size of (1) and (2), and (3) shall be equal to or larger than (4). Male tube end shall precede female (swivel) tube end. For stud fittings (tube to port connectors) the tube end shall precede the stud end. For adapter unions shown in SAE J514, th

EXAMPLE: A 37 degree flare male connector,
17、 with 8 tube end and 6 male pipe end with the optional 30 degree (60 degree included) seat, made from low carbon steel is called out as: The suffix is not required for hose fittings with male pipe ends where the 30 degree seat is mandatory (Figure 1, SAE J516). 3.1.1.3 Hose The dash size code for ho
18、se shall be the number of sixteenth-inch increments contained in the inside diameter of the hose (nominal hose size), except in the case of SAE 100R5 and 100R14 hose where it is equivalent to the number of sixteenth-inch increments in the outside diameter of tubing having approximately the same insi
19、de diameter as the hose. 38、ation The fitting identification shall consist of a basic six to eight digit alphanumeric code made up of three groups each symbolizing in sequence: (a) the fitting type, (b) the fitting shape, and (c) the fitting connecting ends. Each group may be modified with a prefix/suffix to signify features s
39、uch as metric hex (example 2 as follows), metric tube (example 3 in 3.1.1.6), style of ferrule (example 3 as follows), etc. EXAMPLE 1: To identify a fitting made from a metric hex or with metric wrench flats, a suffix letter “M” shall be placed after the Fitting Type Codes (a) shown in Tables 6A and
40、 6B. EXAMPLE 2: 07M0122 / Metric Hex or Wrench Flats For assembled flareless fittings (SAE J514 Section 2), suffix A or B after the fitting type code (08) shall be added to identify assembly with either type A or type B ferrule. EXAMPLE 3: An assembled carbon steel flareless connector for 1/2 in OD
