9、ess intelligence (6.3%). 59 Market overview The last decade has witnessed a significant investment in IT by education institutions across the globe and as a result, end users have become more discerning technology consumers. Internet access is nearly ubiquitous in US K12 districts and many European
10、primary and secondary schools. In fact, the UKs Building Schools for the Future (BSF) program is investing billions of dollars in the development of new and refurbishment of existing school buildings with a particular focus on purchasing IT in order to ensure that students learn in a “21st century f
11、acilities.” Similarly, the long- standing E-Rate program continues to support nearly $3bn in IT investment by US schools and libraries each year. These programs, among others, and local investments have enabled many institutions to create and maintain a relatively robust IT infrastructure. While the

13、section is based on the survey of senior IT decision-makers as outlined in Chapter 1. As shown below, in more than half of educational organizations participating in the survey, the largest IT project investment was up to US$100,000, with a further 28.6% spending between US$100,000 and $500,000 on t
14、heir largest IT project in 2007. Only 2% of educational institutions spent more than US$1m. However, there are significant opportunities for

23、gence in the next six months however, 6.4% would consider outsourcing security during that period. The technologies that show the most promise for providers, in the Education sector at least, are desktop management and ERP, each with 6.5% of respondents considering outsourcing in the next six months
