(UL) under its Fdlow-Up Service for this category within the limitations given betow and in the Scope section
6、 of this Outline o f Investigation. They are subject to revision as further experience and investigation may show is necessary o r desirable. 13、TINGUISHING SYSTEM UNITS - SU 2SA 5 INTRODUCTION 1 scope 1 .i These requirements are intended to supplement the Standard for Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishers, UL 2 9 9 , for Portable Dry Chemical Fire Extinguishing System Units provided with a heat responsive automatic means of actuation. These devic
14、es are also to be manually operated as a portable dry chemical fire extinguisher. CONSTRUCTION 2 Assembly 2 . 1 PortaMe dry chemical extinguishing system units are to be provided with both an automatic means of opefation when exposed to an abnormal tise in the endosure ambient temperature and a manu
15、al means of operation when the unit is to be used as a portaMe fire extinguisher. PERFORMANCE 3 F m Test - Portable Extinguisher Rating 3.1 PortaMe dry chemicalexinguishing system units shall be fire tested and rated in accordance with the Standard for the Rating and Fire Testing of Fire Extinguishe
16、rs, UL 71 1 , when manually operated as a portable fire extinguisher. Units obtaining not more than 10 Ib of dry chemical extinguishing agent may be provided with a fixed discharge nozzle in lieu of a discharge hose assembly. 4 Fire Test - Total Flooding Evaluation 4.1 PortaMe dry chemical extinguis
17、hing system units shall totally flood an enclosure and extinguish the testfires in accordance with the requirements of Pars. 4.2 through 4.5 after the unit is conditioned at its speciffed minimum storage temperature for a period of at least 16 h. 4.2 portable extinguishing system unit 4.3 are to be

22、 of Fire Extinguishers, UL 7 1 1 . Specifications for excelsior, heptane and the 2.5p test pan are also contained in UL 7 1 1. The term cent& means the center of the floor of the endosure. The term offset means the midpoint between the center of the room and one comer. 4.5 During each fire test, cyl
23、indrical containers having dimensions of 3 in. I D and 4 in. high containing 2 in. of heptane are to be located 2 in. from the comers of test endosures and lacated vertically 1 2 In. below the ceiling of the endosure. The heptane in the these cylinders is to be ignited ater which the other test fuel
24、s (Par. 4 . 3 ) are to be ignited. 5 Response Test 01 Heat Actuating Device 5 . 1 2 min a f t e r the test fue4 is ignition. A portable type extinguishing system unit shall extinguish the heptane fire specified in Par. 5 . 2 within 5 . 2 comer of the test enclosure described in Sec. 4. The heptane I
25、s to be contained in 2-1/2 ( 0 . 2 3 m2) square pan located within 2 in. (50.8mm) of a 5 . 3 air. The water vessel is to be provided with a source for heating the liquid at the prescribed rate with the means to agitate the liquid and measure the temperature of the liquid bat

Water is to be used for heat responsive elements having temperature ratings of 175F are to be bath 6.5 An agitator is to be used for obtaining uniformity and temperature of the bath liquid. 6.6 A laboratory mercur
29、y. thermometer, calibrated in accordance with the specifications for ASTM thermometers, ASTM Elm, is to be used to determine temperatures of the liquids used in bath tests. The bulb of a thermometer is to be located level with the heat responsive element. 6 . 7 The temperature o f the bath liquid is
30、 to be raised until the liquid is within 20F (11C) of the temperature o f the heat responsive element for temperature rating of 300F or less and within 30F (1PC) for an element having a temperature rating of 325F (163C) and higher. The rate o f temperature rise is to be controlled at a rate not exce
31、eding 1F (0.5“C) per minute until operation or until a temperature 20F (1 1C) above the rated temperature is reached.
