13、dated April 30, 2001 proposed to revise the requirements for lighting strings employing individual-flashing (twinkle) lamps in the Standard for Seasonal and Holiday Decorative Products, UL 588. The proposed requirements permitted a lighting string to employ individual-flashing lamps without the use
14、of current-limiting ballast lamps if the product complied with the following construction requirements: 1. The string must employ a minimum of 20 lamps, half of which must be steady-illuminating. 2. The lamp size for the individually-flashing lamps shall be significantly larger than for the steady-
15、illuminating lamps such that the individually-flashing lamp cannot fit into the lampholder intended for the steady-illuminating lamps. However, after consideration of comments received in response to the proposal, UL has decided to revise the proposal to require the string to employ a minimum of 35
16、lamps instead of 20 lamps. Increasing the required minimum number of lamps would further reduce the risk of all the lamps shorting at the same time which could possibly cause the lighting string to overheat.
