2、pe.This specificationcovers nylonthread used for machineand hand- sewing (see 6.1). 1.2Classification. 1.2.1Types and classes. The thread shall be furnishedin the following types and classes, as specified (see 6.2). Types : I-Twisted multiple cord, soft finish II- Twisted multiple cord, bonded finis

The requirementsspecifiedin 3.7.1, 3.9, 3.10, section 5, and the related provisions
15、 of section 4 apply onlyto thread purchased directly by the Government. All otherrequirementsapply both to thread purchased by a supplier as a component for an end item andto thread purchaseddirectly by the Government. 3.2Standard sample. When a standard sampleis available,the threadshall matchthe s
16、tandard for shade,and shall be equal to or better than the standard sample with respect to all characteristicsfor which the standardsampleis referenced(see 6.3). 3.3Materials. 3.3.1Yarn.The yarn shall be bright, high tenacity continuousmultifilament nylon.The nylon shall be a polyamidepreparedfrom h
17、examethylenediamineand adipic acid or its derivatives,and shall have a meltingpoint of notless than 4720F when tested as specifiedin 4.2.3. 3 - v-T-295E 3.3.2Bonding agent.The bondingagent usedin typesII and III thread, shall be a colorlessnylon polymer(see 4.2.3). 3*4color.The color (shade) shall b
18、e as specifiedin the applicableend- item specificationorin the contract or purchase order(see 6.2).Shade designations by letter (e.g. - Olive Drab S-1), and relatedcable numbers (e.g. C.A. 66022), refer to the DOD StandardShade for Sewing Threads1968 (see 2?2). 3.4.1Visual color matching.The shade o
19、f the end item thread, after removal offinish when applicable,shall matchthe specifiedapplicableshade standard (see 6.3), when tested as specifiedin 4.2.3. 3.4.2Colorfastness.The colorfastnessof dyed finishedthread shall be as specifiedin the applicableend item specificationor as set forth in the co
20、ntract or purchaseorder (see 6.2 and 6.5), except that when requirementsare not stated or referencedto a standardsample for colorfastness,the thread shall show “good” colorfastnessto laundering(after 3 cycles), wet drycleaning and light as specified.When a standard sample for colorfastnessis referen
21、ced, the thread shall be equal to or betterthan the standardsample for the specifiedcolorfastness propertiesor(when propertiesare not specified) for colorfastnessto laundering(after 3 cycles) wet drycleaningand light. Tests for colorfastness(including test for perspirationand weatheringwhen speci- f
22、ied) shall be as specifiedin 4.2.3 as applicable. 3.5Construction.The constructionof the thread shall be as specified below and in the number of plies as specifiedin 3.7,for the applicabletype and size. 3.5.1Type I.Type I thread shall be twisted multiPlecord (PIY) construction, unbended with a soft
23、finish.Each of the individual yarns shall be twistedinitially with not less than the number of turns per inch (t.p.i.) to be usedin the finaltwist, and in the oppositedirectionto the final twist (see 3.6).The final plied twist shall be not less than the applicable minimum t.p.i. specified in 3.7. 3.
24、5.2Type II.Type II thread shall have the same constructionas type I, except that it shall be bonded. 3.5.3Type III.Type III thread shall be essentiallya single ply, monocord construction, bondedto unite all the yarns to form a smooth even monocord. Constituent yarns before combiningshall contain onl
25、y the original yarn producerstwist, and the final twist shall be no morethan 4 t.p.i. -. 4 v-T-295E 3.5.4Type IV.Type IV thread shall be twisted two-cord (ply) construction, unbendedwith a wax finish(see 3.8).Each of the individual yarnsshall be twistedinitially with notless than the number of t.p.i
26、. to be usedin the finaltwist.The final twist shall be “S” andthe thread shall be suitable for simulated hand-sewingdone by machine. 3.5.5Type V.Type V thread shall be of a twisted, three-cord(ply) construction,unbendedwith a wax finish (see 3.8).Each of the individual pliesshall be twistedinitially
27、 withnotless than the number of t.p.i. to be usedin the final twist, andin the opposite directionto the final twist (see 3.6).The final plied twist shall be suitable for hand-sewing. 3.5.6Type VI.Type VI thread shall be multiplecord(ply) construction, softfinish.Each of the individual plies shall be
28、 twistedinitially with not less than the number of t.p.i. to be used in the final twist, andin the oppositedirectionto the final twist (see 3.6).The final pliedtwist shall be suitablefor the requirementsof machine-sewing. 3.S.7Type VII.Type VIIthread shall be multiplecord (ply) construction, soft fi
29、nish.Each of the individual plies shall be twisted initially with not less than the number of t.p.i. to be used in the final twist, and in the oppositedirectionto the final twist (see 3.6).The final pliedtwist shall not be less than the minimumspecified in table VII and shall be suitable for multi-n
30、eedlequilting machines. 3.6Twist direction.Unless otherwise specified(see 6.2), the direction of the final twist shall be “Z” except that numbersizes of types I, II and VII threads when used for sole stitching of footwear or coreless bobbinsand top threadsfor quilting may be “S” or “Z” dependingupon

42、 have a smooth, dressed surface suitable for hand-sewing(see 4.2.3).For class B, the thread shall be given an approved nonwicking finish (see 3.8.2). 3.8.1Nonwicking(class B).The class B thread shall resist the wicking of waterfor a period of not less than 6 hours when tested as specifiedin 4.2.3. 3
