3、lace in the turbine and transformer rooms of the hydroelectric plant of the Sayano-Shushenskaya dam. The exact cause is still under investigation, but what is known so far is that a tremendous amount of water from the Yenisei River flooded the turbine room, causing at least one transformer explosion
4、 and extensive damage to all ten turbines, destroying at least three of them. 74 workers are known to have lost their lives in the accident, while one remains missing. Additionally, 40 tons of transformer oil were spilled into the river, killing an estimated 400 tons of trout in two fisheries. Inves
5、tigators plan to release findings in two months, as Prime Minister Vladimir Putin called for a nationwide infrastructure inspection. 27、ccident at the Sayano-Shushenskaya hydroelectric power plant has been found. “Cleanup teams found the body of the 74th victims of the accident,“ SKP spokesman Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Wednesday. “Investigators are closely cooperating with the state commission on technical probe into the cau
28、se of the accident. The inspection of the scene of the accident is continuing, and the necessary expert examinations and other investigative actions are being conducted within the framework of the criminal case,“ Markin said. Earlier, deputy director of the SKP department for the Siberian Federal Di
29、strict Vladimir Anufriyev told Itar-Tass that the body had been found in the river Yenisei, in the proximity to the HPP. The accident at the Sayano-Shushnskaya HPP which is located in Khakasia occurred in the morning of August 17. Three of ten power generation units were destroyed. The remaining uni
30、ts sustained damage. One person is still listed as missing. On August 22, Prime Minister Vladimir Putin ordered departments and the RusHydro company to prepare, within six weeks, a plan to rebuild the HPP. Meanwhile, the United Russia faction at the State Duma lower house of the Russian parliament b
31、rought a motion to set up a commission to investigate the HPP accident. It will require the signatures of least one fifth of lawmakers. “It is the initiative of United Russia,“ State Duma speaker Boris Gryzlov underlined. Valentin Romanov of the Communist faction called for inviting Prime Minister V
32、ladimir Putin to the “Government House“ question and answer session at the Duma, to discuss the causes and consequences of the accident. On October 22, the Duma will hold a parliamentary hearing on legislative support of safety at hydroelectric power plants, chairman of the house committee on power
