Some of us think that it is better to see the film than to read the book in the original. The reason is that it takes less time to understand the whole story. Besides, the film is usually more interesting, and it is easier to follow. Some others have just the opposite opinion. They think that they can get more detailed information from the original. Meanwhile, the language in the book is possibly more lively and beautiful. Personally, I agree with the second view. Actually I have more reasons for it. I think I can stay at home, reading quietly in a situation of my own, and what s more, I am able to better understand the author s ideas. In a word, to read the original work is better than to see the film based on it. Practice 2 There are basically two ways to get to school. Some go to school by bus while some by bicycle, of which both have their own advantages. On one hand, going to school by bus can save you a lot of time especially when you live far away from your school . Besides, it can also save some energy. Thus, you won t be very tired when you get to school. On the other hand, going to school by bicycle can provide you with a chance to make you stronger and healthier. As is known to all, cycling is a good form of exercise. What s more, cycling is a flexible and convenient form. The majority of us consider it very necessary to go to college. They think it can widen their knowledge and improve their qualities. Only in this way can they find better jobs after graduation. Very few students, that is about ten percent of the students think it no use going university, because the tuition is too high for their family to afford. What s more, it s rather hard for college graduates to seek satisfactory jobs. Thirty percent of the students, however, believe “ All roads lead to Rome. ” Therefore it doesn t make any difference whether they go to college or not. In my opinion, we can receive a better education at college so that we can serve our motherland. Practice 6 From the picture we can see a family of three walking on a long red carpet. The son, well dressed, waves proudly in the middle while the father behind bends forward to hold the jacket and the mother in front rolls out the carpet, sweating. It shows a common phenomenon nowadays that children are the focus of families, shouldering the hope of their parents. Parents arrange everything for their children and spare no effort to pave the way for their success. As a consequence, children become so reliant on their parents that they have no independent thought or creative ideas. Such a situation is of great concern. In my opinion, overprotection and too much care are extremely bad for children s development. Instead of doing everything for them, parents should encourage their children to overcome difficulties and inspire them to develop by themselves. In the cartoon, we can see a man talking to a paper bird kept in his cage and beside him is a vast desert dotted with endless tree roots. Obviously, birds have lost their homes as people have cut down all the trees. As a result, humans have lost their animal friends. The scene may seem ridiculous and unbelievable to us, but it may become a reality in the future if we go on developing economy regardless of the damage caused to the environment.
