To keep abreast of progress in industry, Joint Australian/New Zealand Standards are subject to periodic review and are kept up to date by the issue of amendments or new editions as necessary. It is important therefore that Standards users ensure that they are in possession of the latest edition, and any amendments thereto. Full details of all Joint Standards and related publications will be found in the Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand Catalogue of Publications; this information is supplemented each month by the magazines The Australian Standard and Standards New Zealand, which subscribing members receive, and which give details of new publications, new editions and amendments, and of withdrawn Standards. Suggestions for improvements to Joint Standards, addressed to the head office of either Standards Australia or Standards New Zealand, are welcomed. Notification of any inaccuracy or ambiguity found in a Joint Australian/New Zealand Standard should be made without delay in order that the matter may be investigated and appropriate action taken. AS/NZS 4331.1:1995 Australian/New Zealand Standard Metallic flanges Part 1: Steel flanges PUBLISHED JOINTLY BY: STANDARDS AUSTRALIA 1 The Crescent, Homebush NSW 2140 Australia STANDARDS NEW ZEALAND Level 10, Standards House, 155 The Terrace, Wellington 6001 New Zealand ISBN 0 7337 0007 1 ii PREFACE This Standard was prepared by the Joint Standards Australia/Standards New Zealand Committee ME/1 on Pressure Equipment. It is identical with and has been reproduced from ISO 7005-1:1992, Metallic flanges, Part 1: Steel flanges. The objective of this Standard is to provide designers, manufacturers and users with an international Standard for flanges for use in pressure applications. This Joint Standard is one of the following series that applies to metallic flanges. AS/NZS 4331Metallic flanges 4331.1Part 1:Steel flanges 4331.2Part 2:Cast iron flanges 4331.3Part 3:Copper alloy and composite flanges Under arrangements made between Standards Australia, Standards New Zealand and ISO, users of this Standard are advised that in Australia copyright is vested in Standards Australia and in New Zealand copyright is vested in Standards New Zealand. It is not intended this Standard be a mandatory replacement for any flange Standards already in use in Australia or New Zealand. Before flanges to this Standard are used with flanges of other Standards, compatibility for bolting, strength, gasket seating and the like should be checked. Statements expressed in mandatory terms in notes to text, tables and figures are deemed to be requirements of this Standard. The terms normative and informative have been used in this Standard to define the application of the annex to which they apply. A normative annex is an integral part of a Standard, whereas an informative annex is only for information and guidance. As this Standard is reproduced from an international Standard, the following applies: (a) Its number appears on the cover and title page while the International Standard number appears only on the cover. (b) In the source text, this International Standard should read this Australia/New Zealand Standard. (c) A full point substitutes for a comma when referring to a decimal marker. References to international Standards should be replaced by equivalent Australian Standards, as follows: Reference to International StandardAustralian Standard ISO 7 7-1:1982 7-2:1982 Pipe threads where pressure-tight joints are made on the threads Part 1: Designation, dimensions and tolerances Part 2: Verification by means of limit gauges AS 1722 1722.1 1722.1 Pipe threads of Whitworth form Part 1: Sealing pipe threads Part 1: Sealing pipe threads 261:1973ISO general purpose metric screw threadsGeneral plan 1721Generalpurposemetricscrew threads 887*Plainwashers for metricbolts, screwsandnutsforgeneral purposesGeneral plan *To be published (Revision of ISO 887:1983). iii ISO 6708:1980Pipe components Definition of nominal size AS 7268:1983Pipe components Definition of nominal pressure 7483:1991Dimensionsofgasketsfor use with flanges to ISO 7005 ANSI/ASME B1.20.1:1983 Pipe threads, general purpose (inch) Equivalent National Material Standards may be substituted for those specified in this Standard. ©CopyrightSTANDARDS AUSTRALIA/STANDARDS NEW ZEALAND Users of Standards are reminded that copyright subsists in all Standards Australia and Standards New Zealand publications and software.
