This edition of the standard supersedes BS AU 175-2:1979 and extends the field of application to include mopeds. The 1979 edition of the standard is now withdrawn. Terminology and conventions. The text of the International Standard has been approved as suitable for publication as a British Standard without deviation. Some terminology and certain conventions are not identical with those used in British Standards; attention is drawn especially to the following. Where the words “International Standard” appear, referring to this standard, they should be read as “British Standard”. The Technical Committee has reviewed the provisions of ISO 3833, to which reference is made in the text, and has decided that they are acceptable for use in conjunction with this standard. The ISO Guide to which reference is made in clause 7 has not yet been published. As an interim measure, therefore, the procedures for the implementation of WMI codes assignments in the United Kingdom, based on the appropriate parts of the latest draft of the ISO standard, are given in National appendix A to this standard. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.
