This standard specifies the important dimensions and arrangements for the filling and emptying connections. NOTEIt is intended to include quick couplings in a future revision of this European Standard. 2 Normative references This European Standard incorporates by dated or undated reference, provisions from other publications. The operating controls of the external valves shall be equipped with devices to which a seal can be properly attached. NOTEFor customs seals a hole of diameter 15 mm is required 4.4 Dimensions They are given in millimetres. The valve itself may be mounted either from inside or outside the tank. b) The quick closing bottom valve shall be operable from ground level. It shall be operable from both sides of the tank and its setting whether open or closed shall be capable of being verified. c) It shall be designed to remain closed when the external control is damaged. d) The quick closing bottom valve shall : be protected against being wrenched off by external forces or, incorporate a shear groove in the external portion of the valve body, or provide for a similar weakened section such that the external pipework may be sheared off without causing the leak at the level of the stop valve. e) The quick closing bottom valve shall be equipped with an instant operation safety device which closes the valve automatically in the event of an unintended movement of the tank wagon or a fire. This shall be achieved by means of a control cable as shown in Figure 4 which holds the valve open and the free end of which is fastened to a remote release hook external to the wagon. This hook shall be capable of being disconnected from its fastening point by a slack rope or equivalent mechanism which will enable the valve to be closed from a point remote from the wagon. The remote release mechanism shall contain a fusible element so that the valve may close in the event of fire. The guide tube and attachment ring for the control cable shall for a buffer height of 1060 mm be arranged and dimensioned as shown in Figure 4 below. The inner diameter of the attachment ring shall be 50 mm. When the bottom valve is closed and the control cable is slack, the lowest point of the attachment ring shall be at least 140 mm above rail level so that even for the lowest allowable buffer height of 950 mm, the control cable always remains with adequate clearance above the loading gauge. f) have the operating controls positioned at a sufficient distance from the outlet pipes to permit easy acce
