Each detail specification shall give the name and address of the originator of the specification. 3.1.2 Numbering of the detail specification. Each detail specification shall carry a distinguishing number made up of the number of this standard followed by a three-digit number to designate the particular detail specification. Where the detail specifications have been prepared by BSI the two portions of the distinguishing number shall be separated by the letter “N”, e.g. BS 9054 NXXX. When the detail specification has been prepared by a manufacturer BSI will issue an “EP” number, e.g. EP 9054 FXXX which shall be used until such time as the qualification approval test report has been received by BSI, who will then issue a BS number which will be separated by the letter “F”, e.g. BS 9054 FXXX, to show that the detail specification has been prepared by a manufacturer. The issue number and date of issue (month and year) of the detail specification shall be given and re-issues shall give the issue number and date of issue of the superseded document, all changes being clearly marked. 3.1.3 Description of the tube and intended application. This shall be as shown on the first page of the mandatory layout for a detail specification. 3.1.4 Outline drawing (not for inspection purposes). An illustration of the part showing the overall dimensions shall be given as an aid to easy recognition and for comparison of the tube with other tubes. Terminal connections shall be given as appropriate. The symbols used shall be in accordance with the relevant British Standards or IEC Publications. The location of the inspection drawings (see 3.3) shall be given. 3.1.5 Ratings (not for inspection purposes). Any limiting conditions of use, e.g., mounting, shall be stated. The absolute system of ratings shall be used (see IEC Publication 134). The ratings to be stated are shown in the mandatory layout given in this standard. Additional ratings may be included at the manufacturers discretion but in all cases the values of the ratings and the conditions under which the ratings apply shall be given. Any interdependence of the ratings shall be given. 3.1.5.1 Ratings (limiting values). These are defined as ratings which establish either a limiting capability or a limiting condition of use beyond which significant performance deterioration, life reduction and/or possible damage to the device may occur. Such values do not necessarily define a frontier where one side gives satisfactory performance and the other immediate failure. 3.1.6 Characteristics (not for inspection purposes). The characteristics to be stated are shown in the mandatory layout given in this standard. Additional characteristics may be included at the manufacturers discretion but in all cases the conditions under which the characteristics are measured shall be stated. 3.1.7 Related documents. Reference shall be made to BS 9000, “General requirements for electronic parts of assessed quality”, BS 9001, “Sampling procedures and tables of inspection for electronic parts of assessed quality”, BS 9050, “Cathode ray tubes of assessed quality: generic data and methods of test”, and to any other British Standards or IEC Publications which are called up in the detail specification but not already referenced in BS 9050. 3.1.8 Additional information. This part of the detail specification shall include any circuit diagrams, graphs and notes necessary to clarify any part of the detail specification. Also where any items such as those listed below are not fully defined in BS 9050 (and/or BS 9000 in some cases) additional details covering those items shall be given in the detail specification. 1) Terms and definitions. 2) Letter symbols. 3) Test procedures. The general principles contained in the relevant British Standards and/or IEC Publications shall be followed when preparing such additional information. 3.1.8.1 Application data. The application data shall be that which, in the view of the manufacturer, will provide adequate user information. This information shall be given on a voluntary basis and is not a mandatory requirement in the sense of forming part of the inspection procedure to meet the needs of the detail specification. Where maximum and/or minimum curves are given these should represent the expected limits of the production spread, and the interpretation to be placed on these limits must be stated. 3.1.9 Ordering information. The minimum ordering information required for tubes covered by the detail specification shall be given, as shown in the mandatory layout. 3.2 Inspection requirements. This clause should be read in conjunction with 2.6 of BS 9000. This standard prescribes the complete schedule of tests to be included in the detail specification necessary to assess the declared characteristics of the tube (or range of tubes), which shall be carried out regularly at intervals of time not exceeding 3 years, the time interval relevant to each test being given. Only those tests and measurements which are listed shall be used for the co-ordination of detail specifications. However, a manufacturer may specify at his discretion additional tests and measurements, tightened inspection levels and acceptable quality levels, more severe environmental severities and increased durations. The requirements for tests and measurements are given under the following headings: 1) The tests and measurements to be performed, with the letter symbol where appropriate, and with the applicable inspection levels and acceptable quality levels (taken from the levels listed in BS 9001). 2) The reference numbers for the test procedures as given in BS 9050. 3) The test conditions of voltage, current, frequency, temperature etc., as appropriate and in accordance with the referenced test procedure as given in BS 9050. 4) The units of measurements. 5) The acceptance limits. The general test conditions may be given in a table preceding the acceptance test requirements. The electrode to which all voltages are referred shall be stated. Where the test to be performed is in the nature of mechanical, environmental or electrical stress, the measurements or tests to be made to determine the ability of the part to withstand the stress are specified. Usually, the post conditioning requirements include one or more of the tests required to verify the description of the part. The post conditioning test limits are to be stated. Where a specific test procedure is not included in BS 9050, a full description of the procedure to be followed shall be given in the detail specification. It will be necessary for the detail specification to indicate wherever any particular order of testing in any subgroup must be observed. Where a subgroup contains a “destructive” test either this shall be stated in full or the symbol “(D)” shall be placed alongside the title of the subgroup in the schedule of inspection requirements in the detail specification. Such detail specifications shall contain the following footnote: “Samples subjected to tests marked “destructive” or “(D)” shall not be accepted for release under BS 9000 (see 2.6.5 of BS 9000)”. 3.2.1 Group A inspection. This group consists of non-destructive short-duration electrical and mechanical test procedures which are employed to assess on a lot-by-lot basis the principal characteristics of tubes covered by the detail specification. It is divided into subgroups as follows: Subgroup A0. All tests required for 100 % testing. Subgroup A1. Visual examination where this is not prescribed in other subgroups. Subgroup A2. Tests which are of major importance for verifying the description of the part. Subgroup A3. Tests which are of minor importance for verifying the description of the part. Subgroup A4. Tests which assess the electrical characteristics which are of a design nature. Subgroup A5. Measurements which are to be presented in the CTR. 3.2.2 Group B inspection. This group consists of tests which assess on a lot-by-lot basis certain additional characteristics which are usually more complex and/or of longer duration than those in Group A. These characteristics are appropriate for confirmation by electrical, mechanical or environmental tests which can be carried out in less than a week and may be of a destructive nature. It is divided into subgroups as follows: Subgroup B1. Tests which assess the interchangeability of the tube. Subgroup B2. Tests which are intended to simulate assembly procedures and to assess their effect upon the tube during storage and transport with the tube assembled into equipment. Subgroup B3. Tests which are intended to assess the mechanical robustness of the tube during assembly into equipment. Subgroup B4. Tests which are intended to assess the effect of electromechanical and environmental stress. Subgroup B5. Tests which are intended to assess the performance of the tube during variations of air pressure. Subgroup B6. Tests intended to assess the effect of short-term mechanical and environmental stress. Subgroup B7. Tests intended to assess the early failure characteristics of a tube. Subgroup B8. Measurements which are to be presented in the CTR. 3.2.3 Group C inspection. This group consists of tests which assess additional characteristics of a tube that are appropriate for checking at intervals of three months. These tests are not intended as lot-by-lot checks but rather as periodic confirmation that certain characteristics are being maintained and as a means of collecting information for inclusion in the CTR. It is divided into subgroups as follows: Subgroup C1. Tests which assess the detail dimensions of the tube. Subgroup C2. Tests which assess the electrical characteristics that are of a design nature. Subgroup C3. Tests which assess the ability of the tube to withstand mechanical and environmental stresses. Subgroup C4. Tests which assess the electrical and mechanical characteristics at rated extremes of temperature. Subgroup C5. Tests which assess the medium endurance performance of a tube. Subgroup C6. Measurements which are to be presented in the CTR. 3.2.4 Group D inspection. This group consists of the inspection and test procedures which are used to assess the remaining characteristics of the tube and which are appropriate for checking at 1- , 2- or 3-yearly intervals. 3.3 Inspection drawing. A drawing of the tube (or range of tubes) shall be given for inspection purposes together with a statement of the projection used. A table of dimensions with tolerances shall be given, subdivided to show the dimensions which are appropriate for Group B, C or D inspection. The purpose of certified test records, their position in the system of standardization of electronic parts of assessed quality and the procedure for their preparation and issue are explained and specified in 2.8 of BS 9000. To ensure maximum assistance to, and utilization by, tube users, certified test records should contain only information of direct interest presented in a uniform and readily assimilable manner. The requirements for the information to be presented in certified test records shall be as given in subgroups A5, C6 and D6.
