It is to be read in conjunction with BS EN 50144-1:1996 General requirements, which it supplements or modifies. The many references to Part 1 should be read as references to BS EN 50144-1:1996, which is the English language version of EN 50144-1:1995. The foreword of EN 50144-2-10 makes reference to the “date of withdrawal”, dow, of the relevant national standard. In this case the relevant national standard is BS 2769-2.10:1984 which will be withdrawn on 1 December 1996 in accordance with the CENELEC Internal Regulations. Reference is also made to the application of CENELEC Memorandum No. 6 with regard to certification. Attention is drawn to Note 7 to Memorandum No. 6 which states: “The use of the certificate or mark licence in the running production may not go on for more than 60 months after dow. This should allow necessary changes in the production line and to use up supplies. Within the established period after dow the certificates and mark licences will have to be reconsidered and cancelled or reissued”. For tools intended to be used in locations where special conditions prevail, as in ships and vehicles, and in hazardous locations, for example, where explosions are liable to occur, requirements additional to those specified in the standard may be necessary. This standard calls for test procedures that may be injurious to safety or health if adequate precautions are not taken when conducting tests. Product certification Attention is drawn to the fact that products conforming to this British Standard may be approved by BSI Product Certification, and that such certification may be used for the purposes of participation in the CENELEC Certification Agreement. (Details of the BSI certification marks are given on the inside back cover.) A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, the EN title page, pages 2 to 6, an inside back cover and a back cover. This standard has been updated (see copyright date) and may have had amendments incorporated. This will be indicated in the amendment table on the inside front cover. The text of the draft was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure (UAP) in December 1993 and was approved by CENELEC as EN 50144-2-10 on 1994-10-04. A draft for an amendment was submitted to the Unique Acceptance Procedure in April 1994 and was approved by CENELEC on 1994-10-04 for inclusion into the European Standard. This European Standard replaces HD 400.3J S1:1981. The following dates were fixed: As far as certification is concerned, CENELEC Memorandum 6 applies. This standard is divided into two Parts: Part 1: General Requirements, comprising clauses of a general character. Part 2: Particular Requirements, dealing with particular types of appliance. The clauses of these particular requirements supplement or modify the corresponding clauses in Part 1. Where the text of Part 2 indicates an “addition” to, a “modification” or “replacement” of the relevant requirement, test specification or explanation of Part 1, these changes are made to the relevant text of Part 1, which then becomes part of the standard. Where no change is necessary, the words “This clause of Part 1 is applicable” are used in Part 2. Tables and figures which are additional to those in Part 1 are numbered starting from 101. NOTEIn this standard the following print types are used: Requirements proper: in roman type; Test specification: in italic type; Explanatory matter: in small roman type.
