It is identical with IEC 60317-0-5:1992, including amendments 1:1997 and 2:1999, published by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). WARNING. In referring to the methods of test in BS EN 60851 this Section of BS EN 60317 calls for the use of substances and/or procedures that may be injurious to health if adequate precautions are not taken. It refers to technical suitability and does not absolve the user from legal obligations relating to health and safety at any stage. The clause numbers used in this Section are not consecutive. The clause numbers are identical with the test numbers used in IEC 851, which is identical with BS EN 60851 (see 3.2). The introduction to IEC 60317-0-5 reads as follows. “This International Standard is one of a series which deals with insulated wires used for windings in electrical equipment. The series has three groups describing: 1) methods of test (IEC 851); 2) specifications (IEC 317); 3) packaging (IEC 264).” NOTEReference should be made to BS 6811-0 General introduction and list of Parts which lists all standards in the BS 6811 series and gives their relationship with IEC publications. Cross-references The British Standards which implement international or European publications referred to in this document may be found in the BSI Standards Catalogue under the section entitled “International Standards Correspondence Index” or using the “Find” facility of the BSI Standards Electronic Catalogue. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. The range of nominal conductor dimensions is given in the relevant specification sheet. When reference is made to a winding wire according to a standard of the IEC 60317 series mentioned under clause 2, the following information is given in the description: reference to IEC specification; nominal conductor dimensions in millimetres (width?thickness); grade of coating and glass covering. EXAMPLE: IEC 60317-39 4,00?2,00 Grade 2G1 2 Normative references The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of this section of IEC 317-0. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on this section of IEC 317-0 are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below. Members of IEC and ISO maintain registers of currently valid International Standards. The clause numbers used in this section are identical with the respective test numbers of IEC 851. In case of inconsistencies between IEC 851 and this section of IEC 317-0, the latter shall prevail. Where no specific range of nominal conductor dimensions is given for a test, the test applies to all nominal conductor dimensions covered by the specification sheet. Unless otherwise specified, all tests shall be carried out at a temperature from 15?C to 35?C and a relative humidity from 45 % to 75 %. Before measurements are made, the specimens shall be preconditioned under these atmospheric conditions for a time sufficient to allow the specimens to reach stability. The wire to be tested shall be removed from the packaging in such a way that the wire will not be subjected to tension or unnecessary bends. Before each test, sufficient wire should be discarded to ensure that any damaged wire is not included in the test specimens. 4 Dimensions 4.1 Conductor dimensions The dimensions for widths and thicknesses of conductors of winding wires with rectangular cross-section reco
