BRITISH STANDARD BS EN 61300-2-35: 1997 IEC 61300-2-35: 1995 Fibre optic interconnecting devices and passive components Basic test and measurement procedures Part 2.35: Tests Cable nutation The European Standard EN 61300-2-35:1997 has the status of a British Standard ICS 33.180.20 Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Sat Nov 11 12:56:28 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS EN 61300-2-35:1997 This British Standard, having been prepared under the direction of the Electrotechnical Sector Board, was published under the authority of the Standards Board and comes into effect on 15 November 1997 © BSI 03-2000 ISBN 0 580 28584 7 National foreword This British Standard is the English language version of EN 61300-2-35:1997. It is identical with IEC 61300-2-35:1995. The UK participation in its preparation was entrusted by Technical Committee EPL/86, Fibre optics, to Subcommittee EPL/86/2, Interconnecting devices and passive components, which has the responsibility to: aid enquirers to understand the text; present to the responsible international/European committee any enquiries on the interpretation, or proposals for change, and keep the UK interests informed; monitor related international and European developments and promulgate them in the UK. A list of organizations represented on this subcommittee can be obtained on request to its secretary. From 1 January 1997, all IEC publications have the number 60000 added to the old number. For instance, IEC 27-1 has been renumbered as IEC 60027-1. For a period of time during the change over from one numbering to the other, publications may contain identifiers from both systems. Cross-references Attention is drawn to the fact that CEN and CENELEC Standards normally include an annex which lists normative references to international publications with their corresponding European publications. The British Standards which implement these international or European publications may be found in the BSI Standards Catalogue under the section entitled “International Standards Correspondence Index”, or by using the “Find” facility of the BSI Standards Electronic Catalogue. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations. Summary of pages This document comprises a front cover, an inside front cover, pages i and ii, the EN title page, pages 2 to 4 and a back cover. During the rotation a tensile force is applied to the cable. 2 Apparatus An example of the test apparatus is given in Figure 1. This test apparatus consists of the following elements. 2.1 Clamping device A suitable clamping device able to describe a circle without transmitting axial rotation to the specimen (the line XX remains vertical). 2.2 Pulley A swivel pulley. 2.3 Force generator A force generator capable of smoothly applying the required tensile force to the cable end. The severity shall be specified in the detail specification. The following preferred severities are non-mandatory severities which may be specified for this procedure: 5 Details to be specified The following details, as applicable, shall be specified in the detail specification: Cable type Mounting procedure Number of cycles Tensile load Specimen optically functioning or non-functioning Specimen mated or unmated Pre-conditioning procedure Recovery procedure Initial examinations and measurements and performance requirements Examinations and measurements during test and performance requirements Final examinations and measurements and performance requirements Deviations from test procedure Additional pass/fail criteria Tensile force N Number of cycles 10 20 30 40 80 100 150 200 10 50 100 500 1 000 5 000 10 000 Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Sat Nov 11 12:56:28 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI blank Licensed Copy: sheffieldun sheffieldun, na, Sat Nov 11 12:56:28 GMT+00:00 2006, Uncontrolled Copy, (c) BSI BS EN 61300-2-35: 1997 IEC 61300-2-35: 1995 BSI 389 Chiswick High Road London W4 4AL BSI British Standards Institution BSI is the independent national body responsible for preparing British Standards.
