It is identical with ISO 9456:1991 Optics and optical instruments Ophthalmic optics Marking of spectacle frames, published by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). It replaces 8.1 and 8.2 of BS 6625:1985 (renumbered as BS 6625-1:1985 by AMD 7052). By BS 6625-1 and this British Standard, the marking of spectacle frames is now limited to the boxed lens system (see BS 3521-2), i.e. marking by the use of the alternative, outmoded datum system has been deleted. This British Standard specifies the markings to be applied to spectacle frames but not the method of application. Annex A, which is informative, recommends certain details that should be included in any additional documentation. NOTEAlthough ISO 7998 is listed in clause 2, no reference is made to that standard elsewhere in the text. A British Standard does not purport to include all the necessary provisions of a contract. Users of British Standards are responsible for their correct application. Compliance with a British Standard does not of itself confer immunity from legal obligations.
