Material baked as de- scribed in 3.2.1 must have a minimum elongation of 100%. 3.4.1 Elevated Temperature Stability. The sealer, as shipped, must be capable of withstanding 72 h at 43 C. 3.2.7 Shrinkage (GM9037P). Material baked as described in 3.2.1 must have a maximum shrinkage of 5%. 3.2.8 Porosity. The material must show no sign of trapped air from either an external observation or a sectional view before or after curing. 3.4.2 Low Temperature Stabiity. The sealer, as shipped, must bc capable of withstanding 3 cycles per GM9763P. 3.2.9 Corrosion Resistance. Apply two beads of sealer, 3mmhighx4Ommwidex2OOmmlong,tothesurf&eofa phosphated steel panel (inspect panel first to be sure it is free of surface corrosion). Bake panel for 1 h at 200 C. Remove from oven and allow panel to cool to room temperature. 3.4.3 Storage Stability. The shelf life of the material &aIl be 60 days at temperature not to exceed 35 C. The shelf life of the material commences upon receipt of the material from the manufacturer. 3.2.9.1 Initial Adhesion. The material must exhibit good adhesion to the substrate with no cracking, separation, or other deleterious effects. Remove one sealer bead from surface of panel. There must not be any corrosion on panel surface underneath the scaler bead. 4 SOURCE SHIPMENT RESPONSIBILITY. It will be the responsibility of the supplier to insure that the material is not exposed to temperatures during shipment which would cause the mataial to fail to meet any of the requirements of this specification. 5 INITIAL SOURCE APPROVAL. No shipment shall be made by any supplier until representative initial production samples have been approved by engineering as meeting the requirements of this specification. 3.2.9.2 Humidity (GM4465P). Expose panel for 168 h at 38 C/100% RH. 3.2.9.3 Remove sealer bead from surface of panel after humidity test. There must not be any corrosion on panel surface underneath the sealer. 5.1 Completed copies of the GM Mat&al safety Data Sheet and Critical Material Register (available from the engineering department or laboratory), or equivalent, must be submitted with any new submissions or where a composition change has occurred. 3.3 Process Requirements. 3.3.1 Sag (GM9801P). A 3mm highx40mm wide x 200 mm long bead must not sag more than 5 mm. The material shall bc grease worked 100 strokes before applying the bead. The bead shall be applied immediately after the material is grease stroked. Bach substrate identified on Sealer Substrate Compatibiity Charts, under this specification, must be tested. 3.3.2 Pressure Stability (SAE J1864). The material must be capable of withstanding pumping pressures of 22 400 kPa for 72 h without its viscosity or other characteristics being adversely affected. The separation in ml for each approval source will be set at the time of approval to this specification. The separation will become a requirement for the material. 6 INSPECTION AND REJECTION. Au shipments of material or parts under contract or purchase order manufac- tured to this specification shall be equivalent in every respect to the initial samples approved by engineering. There shall be no changes in either formulation or manufacturing processes permitted without prior notification and approval by engi- neering. Lack of notification by the supplier constitutes grounds for rejection of any shipment. While samples may be taken from incoming shipments and checked for conformance to this specification, the supplier shall accept the responsibili- ty for incoming shipments meeting this specification without dependence upon purchaser s inspection. 3.3.3 Smoke (GM9828P). The sealer must not smoke up to 200 c. 7 APPROVED SOURCES. Engiuccring qualification of an approved source is required for this specification. only sources listed in the GM Corporate Materials File under this specifiition number have been qualified by engineering as meeting the requirements of this specification. Sources are available through the on-line MATSPC System. 3.3.4 Wash off Resistance (G M9804P). After 2 passes, the material must remain on the steel substrate with no loss of material. 8 GENERAL INFORMATION.
