The text of this amendment is based on the following documents: FDIS Report on voting 61E/597/FDIS 61E/612/RVD Full information on the voting for the approval of this amendment can be found in the report on voting indicated in the above table. The committee has decided that the contents of this amendment and the base publication will remain unchanged until the maintenance result date indicated on the IEC web site under “http:/webstore.iec.ch“ in the data related to the specific publication. At this date, the publication will be reconfirmed, withdrawn, replaced by a revised edition, or amended. NOTE The attention of National Committees is drawn to the fact that equipment manufacturers and testing organizations may need a transitional period following publication of a new, amended or revised IEC publication in which to make products in accordance with the new requirements and to equip themselves for conducting new or revised tests. It is the recommendation of the committee that the content of this publication be adopted for implementation nationally not earlier than 12 months from the date of publication. _ INTRODUCTION Replace the second sentence of the second paragraph by the following: It also covers abnormal situations that can be expected in practice and takes into account the way in which electromagnetic phenomena can affect the safe operation of appliances. Replace the fifth paragraph by the following: When a part 2 standard does not include additional requirements to cover hazards dealt with in Part 1, Part 1 applies. NOTE 1 This means that the technical committees responsible for the part 2 standards have determined that it is not necessary to specify particular requirements for the appliance in question over and above the general requirements. This standard is a product family standard dealing with the safety of appliances and takes precedence over horizontal and generic standards covering the same subject. 60335-2-48 Amend. 1 © IEC:2008 3 NOTE 2 Horizontal and generic standards covering a hazard are not applicable since they have been taken into consideration when developing the general and particular requirements for the IEC 60335 series of standards. For example, in the case of temperature requirements for surfaces on many appliances, generic standards, such as ISO 13732-1 for hot surfaces, are not applicable in addition to Part 1 or part 2 standards. 6 Classification Add the following subclause: 6.2 Addition: Appliances normally used on a table shall be at least IPX3. Other appliances shall be at least IPX4. 7 Marking and instructions 7.12 Add the following: Modification: The instruction concerning persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge is not applicable. 22 Construction 22.101 Replace the text by the following: For three-phase appliances, thermal cut-outs protecting circuits with heating elements, and those for motors of which the unexpected starting may cause a hazard, shall be of the non-self-resetting and trip-free type, and shall provide all-pole disconnection from related supply circuits. For single-phase appliances and for single-phase heating elements and/or motors connected between one phase and neutral or between phase and phase, thermal cut-outs protecting circuits with heating elements, and those for motors of which the unexpected starting may cause a hazard, shall be of the non-self-resetting and trip-free type, and shall provide at least one-pole disconnection. If the non-self-resetting thermal cut-out is only accessible after removing parts with the aid of a tool, the trip-free type is not required. NOTE 1 Thermal cut-outs of the trip-free type have an automatic action, with a reset actuating member, so constructed that the automatic action is independent of manipulation or position of the reset mechanism. Thermal cut-outs of the bulb and capillary type that operate during the tests of Clause 19 shall be such that rupture of the capillary tube shall not impair compliance with the requirements of 19.13. Compliance is checked by inspection, by manual test and by rupturing the capillary tube. Cette norme est une norme de famille de produits traitant de la sécurité dappareils et a préséance sur les normes horizontales et génériques couvrant le même sujet. NOTE 2 Les normes horizontales et génériques couvrant un risque ne sont pas applicables parce quelles ont été prises en considération lorsque les exigences générales et particulières ont été étudiées pour la série de normes CEI 60335. Pour les appareils monophasés et pour les éléments chauffants monophasés et/ou raccordés au moteur entre phase et neutre ou entre phase et phase, les coupe-circuit thermiques qui protègent les circuits comportant des éléments chauffants et ceux des moteurs dont le démarrage intempestif peut créer un danger doivent être sans réarmement automatique et à déclenchement libre, et doivent assurer au moins la coupure dun pôle. Si le coupe-circuit thermique sans réarmement automatique est accessible uniquement après avoir retiré des parties à laide dun outil, le déclenchement libre nest pas exigé. NOTE 1 Les coupe-circuit thermiques à déclenchement libre ont une action automatique et sont munis dun organe de manuvre de réarmement. Laction automatique est conçue de façon telle quelle soit indépendante de la manipulation ou de la position du mécanisme de réarmement. Les coupe-circuit thermiques à bulbe et à capillaire qui fonctionnent pendant les essais de lArticle 19 doivent être tels que la rupture du capillaire ne compromette pas la conformité aux exigences de 19.13. La vérification est effectuée par examen, par un essai à la main et en provoquant la rupture du capillaire.
